Re: Wind Power B/C

I have a setup for practice where I don’t have a resistor and measure the voltage by directly hooking the generator to a multimeter. Where can I buy resistors? (I miss RadioShack 😊) During practice the device always self started at low speed. During a competition, it did not start at low speed. Cou...

Re: Optics B/C

Guys, do you think it would be easier building a brand new LSS or retrofitting an old one to fit the standards. My experience was that the work I did on the retrofit didn't really overlap with the work to make the original LSS, It was additional work, so I don't see how it would be less or even the...

Re: LSS Retrofit Instructions (strawman)

Thank you for the suggestions. Comments below: 3. The biggest challenge I've found (and hence the delay in producing an official document like this) is cutting the metal sheet. You can buy metal sheets at Lowes / Home Depot anywhere in the country, but cutting it down to size is challenging. You did...

LSS Retrofit Instructions (strawman)

I have an invitational coming up this weekend so I took a shot at instructions to retrofit an LSS with a metal base to meet the recommendations in the 2018 rules. Since I am a little out of my depth here I have posted a link to it with the intent of incorporating comments and suggestions, and then a...

Why is the Visibility marker black this year?

Can someone explain why the visibility marker has to be black this year instead of colored?

I preferred color which made it easier to identify planes both between and within teams.

Re: Hovercraft B/C

Don't forget that the track width has changed from 20 cm to 60 cm.
Since the track is now much wider than the maximum hovercraft width some of the designs from last year to control the run time may no longer work.
Also the timing gates that we used last year won't work with the new track width.

Re: Wind Power B/C

Can someone help elaborate or explain this Power loss and voltage problem show in the attach picture? This taken from one of the invitational test. I understand that P(loss) = I*I*R or P(loss) = V*V/R, but it still does not explain the reasoning behind the answer? Base on the latter equation P(loss...

Re: Wind Power B/C

Hi, I'm completely new to this event. How do you measure your own turbine's voltage with a voltmeter? I'm not sure how to attach it. Don't forget to add the load resistor. There is a schematic in the rules this year that shows the connection of the motor, the resistor and the voltmeter. There are a...
