Re: Mission Possible C

Now that the season is over, what do y'all think about the size bonus? I think that the size score is a useful way to differentiate between teams at the state and national level, but that it was weighted too heavily for small competitions (regionals & invitationals). When a single pint container th...

Re: Ohio 2014

Does anyone know how close the top scores for Mission were at Ohio State on Saturday, did it come down to the size of the box with everything else being equal? That would mean perfect sorting devices and scoring all transfers.

Re: Mission Possible C

Now you have me worried about my designed time task, I have a spring wound (entirely mechanical) arm/device. When activated it moves an attached pre-lit electric lamp into position for an ems to thermal transfer. The task is triggered mechanically, the sequence goes mechanical to mechanical(spring m...

Re: MagLev C

Chalker, I know it says the track must be placed on a level surface, but what about propping the track at a small angle to reduce the speed of the car? I can't find any rules to prohibit this so I'm hoping this would be allowed. I'm sure this should be submitted as an FAQ, but since the topic was b...

Re: MagLev C

Newly posted FAQ's @ soinc.org. I'm not sure I understand how a mass score and time score could be allowed to be from different sucessfull runs? Why not from different vehicles then? That is essentially what this is encouraging - changing the mass between runs. One run for mass ,regardless of time, ...

Re: Mission Possible C

Well....our high school team really messed up and won state. I was counting on not having to work with these MP rules after this weekend. The kids are excited and one of them wanted to start improving our machine today (day after the competition, we got MP gold). I told him to think about the impro...

Re: Mission Possible C

All of these interpretations are leaving us builders/competitors scratching our heads. How are we suposed to know how an event supervisor is going to interpet these transfers. We have been to 4 invitationals with regionals approaching soon, and every event was run different. One event supervisor dis...

Four had impound issues. Always, always, always check. They were lucky; I don't DQ at Invitationals.

Uncle Fester
What type of impound issues, I thought that this was a non impound event?

Re: MagLev C

How precise/strict are event supervisors about track dimensions? Would an extra 1/16th" make too much of a difference, given that it was somewhat of a margin of error from drilling the siderails in? Our team has been to three invitationals this season and our Maglev track has yet to be measured. Yo...

Re: Mission Possible C

Stated in the rules there should be an example of the ETL, or at least the required format at soinc.org. Has anyone found this info? Thanks We just recently realized this was missing. We're working on getting one up soon. Our first invitational is this weekend, I want to be sure that we are followi...
