Re: Mousetrap Vehicle C

I am a bit of a noob with CF so please excuse me if this is a stupid question. You can cut it with a regular hack saw and use regular steel nuts and bearings and stuff with it right? edit: so I did some research and apparently it is dangerous to cut carbon fiber if you don't have the proper ventila...

Re: Boomilever B/C

Thanks for all the info! I actually realized that I had a few more questions about construction: 1. What is a lamination? 2. How do you build your base? I don't know how to calculate the force the base undergoes, so I don't know how to build it efficiently. I'm thinking of putting a stick of 1/4 x ...

Re: Materials and 3D Printing?

How would you attach bearings to the extrusions? Also, wouldn't that be heavy compared to just printing the sides? You could use flanged bearings fixed with adhesive (epoxy) to the rim of holes drilled in the aluminum. Why not just normal bearings friction fit into the drilled holes? Not sure if th...

Re: Materials and 3D Printing?

3d printing connectors, using cf rods to construct the chassis. Same, except I use 10mm aluminum extrusions. Still light, but even stiffer. I use PLA for the connectors, I could go stronger but i’ve found the stiffness of PLA is more desireable than toughness. Side note: we have the same event rost...

Re: Trouble joining the SciOly chat.

You could try using the actual website at kiwiirc.com but i'm not sure if that'd help. Client used won't resolve banned connections. It's like trying to access a website blocked by your ISP by using Safari instead of Chrome. If you are accessing through a shared network, e.g. at a school, it is pos...

FIREWORKS - WAFFLETREE APPROVED

They are nice... What are they running on? Also, does it have anything to do with ProBoards? I found them on a Google Search...

The fireworks use Javascript written by Stephen Chapman.

I think it's probably just for me or I'm really stupid, but there's only 1 timezone in settings. The original code only showed "UTC" regardless of your personal timezone setting, and I replaced it to show many more options. I also set the timezone for all users to "America/Los_Angele...

Somebody's posting really weird links on the wright stuff c forum... Spam bot, just report the posts and it will get taken care of. Could there please be an option to report users as well as posts? In case there are rapid-fire bots like those again? We'll usually look at all the posts by the user. ...

Re: How Could We Improve Scioly.org?

2. Organization of threads is super important. Perhaps you could make it so only admins, moderators, exalted members, and members with 100+ posts can make new topics/threads. Because many "noobs" come on here, don't bother reading past posts, and ask questions that have been answered 10+ ...

Re: Mousetrap Vehicle C

Hey what material do you think is going to be best for building the body this year. I would assume balsa wood or carbon fiber, but with the weird rules this year, I wanted to make sure those were still viable. I would be wary of balsa, simply because steering has to be adjustable, and I would want ...
