Re: Pennsylvania 2017

Word has it (I'm definitely not a proper source) that Conestoga was scored a NS b/c the proctors of Ecology said they didn't have a test from them. However, Conestoga claims they were at the event, therefore, putting a difficult decision on the event proctor and the state organizer. I believe if the...

Re: Geologic Mapping C

Has anyone had to use the compass yet? I've been to two invitationals, and neither had me use the compass. Would we have to be provided with an actual outcrop? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbXhooadhZw [EDIT] Really, what questions would we have to use a compass for? Not hating on a majority of t...

Re: Geologic Mapping C

For making a binder for this event, are sheet protectors useful, or will they just take up space? I used sheet protectors in Fossils, but I don't know whether tests in this event will require as much speed as in Fossils. When I took the GeoMapping in its first year, we didn't use sheet protectors, ...

Re: Geologic Mapping C

Does anyone know what map is going to be used for regionals and where to obtain them or examples of them. The maps used are at the discretion of the test creator and proctor. However, Geologic Maps and Topographic Maps are the two you should know instantly. If you look at the Test Exchange for Geol...

Re: Geologic Mapping C

Hello! I'm new to this event this year, and I was wondering what the rules mean by "geological principles"? Thanks! Geologic principles refers to Steno's four laws that are used to determine the ages of strata in a geologic cross section, as well as several other laws in geology that seem to be les...

Re: Geologic Mapping C

With respect to the idea of aquifers and underground fluids on a Geologic Mapping test, do you think the idea of Darcy's Law or calculating the rate at which water flows through a layer of rock? The point on the Rules of which this could refer to would be "Aquifers, underground fluids, and methods o...

Re: Geologic Mapping C

With respect to Nationals, I cannot say. But for most of the tests that I took when I did Geologic Mapping, Stereonets were not widely on test. In my opinion, I think this largely is due to the amount of knowledge that the test maker might have on them. Unless the test maker is specifically someone ...

Re: Pennsylvania 2014

With the new results, Congrats to Penncrest for coming out on top. Definitely a little disappointing for Harriton nonetheless, however both teams still are going to Nationals. Make PA proud!

Re: Pennsylvania 2014

I can definitely agree with that. Penncrest, just like Harriton, has been involved in Science Olympiad for a long time. They have a well-oiled machine that allows them to consistently compete at a national level. Their volunteering is largely noticed. However, I think because of this, there is more ...
