Re: Experimental Design B/C

This might be a stupid question, but what does the rubric mean when it says to operationally define a variable? it means that you need to find some way to define your variable with numbers...most experiments you do shouldn't be that hard to figure out. like for example, if your dropping different w...

Re: Disease Detectives B/C

Hello! With states soon approaching, I have some last minute questions with which I'm a bit obscure. First, an someone clarify what exactly the epidemiological triad is? I thought it was person/place/time, but there's now something called a chain of transmission/infection triad, and that's getting ...

Re: Experimental Design B/C

I believe there is a very obvious yet unrealized solution to this problem. "Excuse me Mr./Mrs. Event Supervisor Sir/Ma'am, would you like us to include our measuring devices in our materials? Lots of competitions have different rules about this. Thank you." Can we call this debate over? and then th...

Re: Experimental Design B/C

Experimental Design is not at all an exception to that rule. You should be writing down absolutely everything , as specific as possible. Write down the diameters, masses, etc of all your materials. My team always listed measuring devices and never got points off for "writing too much." It's better ...

Re: Bungee Drop C

Are you measuring height from the top of the bottle (N) or from the bottom (M)? https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/33591459/bungee%20drawing.jpg I am not asking for a rules clarification, but rather I am asking what have you all been doing so far? At a real tournament it shouldn't make a huge diff...

Re: Experimental Design B/C

How is the measure of central tendency in the division c stats different from the mean, median, and mode in the general stats section? Also, does work need to be shown for stats or is it appropriate to obtain them directly from your calculator? Measure of central tendency is basically standard devi...

Re: Experimental Design B/C

How do you guys work collaboratively with your partners? I think one of our problems is that we do not get along too well. We disagree on a lot of things, such as how to conduct the experiment and what variables should be involved. Or we disagree on how to approach the write-up. I feel we should ad...

definitely experimental design...so easy
also disease detectives...although the new stats are really difficult

Re: Proudest Moments

I have to say my proudest moment was regionals competition last year. Our team medaled in all of our events except 3, and got 1st overall. Also, I got 1st in Experimental Design which was my first first place medal ever so I was pumped. Either that or two years ago when I did the anatomy test by mys...

Re: Experimental Design B/C

Anyone else have any ideas about what we're supposed to do for "other appropriate statistic used" for Div. C. Thanks! The statistics we use are: -Mean -Median -Mode -Range -Standard Deviation -Linear Regression (just the slope of the line) That will get you all the points if done correctly for each...
