Re: Scores

At MIT, the assertion that scores need to be very nearly perfect to place is mostly false. Multiple teams medaled with temperature scores near or below 52. Conversely, there were teams with temperature scores above 55 that placed in the teens and temperature scores above 50 that placed in the 20s. I...

Re: Nationals Event Discussion

Circuit Lab C Thought I would share some thoughts on how the event went from a supervisor perspective. Test Design: The format was heavily influenced by my organic chemistry exams that I took over the past year. The boxes for answers, score totalling page, and "draw this" type of questions were all...

Re: 2019 National Tournament: Cornell University

The Awards Ceremony is scheduled from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Who is taking odds on the ability to stick to that schedule? I do not think I have been at a Combined Div B/ Div C National Awards Ceremony that has taken less that 3.5 hours.... Last year, awards’ scheduled start time was 7:30, and awards c...

Re: Sounds of Music C

There was a clarification posted a while ago: — THE RULES SAY THAT "ALL NOTES OF THE SCALE MUST LIE BETWEEN F2 AND F5." IS THIS INCLUSIVE OR EXCLUSIVE, I.E. WOULD HAVING F2 OR F5 AS ONE OF THE NOTES BE ALLOWED, AND IF IT IS, WOULD A SLIGHTLY SHARP F5 OR A SLIGHTLY FLAT F2 BE DISQUALIFIED? Yes, that...

Re: Thermodynamics B/C

A sample of air starts at STP. Then, a sound source emitting a 10kHz sine wave is placed in the sample of air. At a certain point P at a given distance from the sound source, the RMS sound pressure level is 100 dB. Assuming air behaves adiabatically when sound travels through it and there are no fri...

Re: Thermodynamics B/C

Suppose you had a cylinder with a piston in it. Describe how you would cause the system to undergo: 1. adiabatic expansion 2. isothermal expansion 3. isobaric expansion Answer|1. Quickly pull on the piston 2. Submerge the cylinder in a constant-temperature water bath and slowly pull on the piston 3...

The magnetic field circulates clockwise around the wire.
