Re: Scores B/C

4th Place National Bridge (post Nationals)- Boca Raton Community HS. The design had a test efficiency of almost 3000, but we scored 2633 at Nationals. What's your tension? Is that balsa or bass? It looks interesting... It is bass and we laser cut it to a specific width (it is dark because of the la...

Re: Scores B/C

7th place bridge at nationals (Lincoln Southwest High School, NE)

It weighed 5.15 and held 12.65kg for a score of 2456, though our scores were usually around 2600-2700 with the design

Re: Scrambler C

does anyone know the range of scores for top 5 at nationals? Mr. Pratt, the event supervisor, will probably post the distances/times/scores for the top 10 scramblers sometime over the next couple days to this thread (at least that's what he did last year). I know we took 4th with something like a 2...

Re: Flights at Nationals

I might be able to get a video of our flight (4:12) and I'll see if I can get a link to it soon.

Re: Scrambler C

That's a little different than my spring design. We had a very simple one (had a big pulley and a small pulley and used torque to pull back a relatively stiff spring) but we never had time to build and test it. I'm currently using a simple falling mass and string launcher that shoots the car out ki...

Re: Scrambler C

How are you guys able to achieve such good times? Are you using a spring launcher? Our system used surgical tubing for the spring portion and a pulley on the mass side of the spring. The pulley halved the distance the spring needed to stretch while still allowing the mass to fall almost the full 1 ...

Re: Raw Tournament Times

someusername, Sorry, I was typing too fast earlier today. Backoff winds when 1/2 motor testing should be approximately halved just like maximum turns are halved. I made a mistake in the post above indicating backoff turns for a full wind. For a first 1/2 motor test flight wound to 750 - 780 turns, ...

Re: Raw Tournament Times

Regarding Brian T's latest post, I have a few more questions. My first question is how do you increase your maximum height exactly? The gym at my school is roughly 30' tall, but even at full torque we could maybe get a maximum altitude of 40' (more or less). What variables could we change to increas...

Re: 2015 National Tournament: University of Nebraska

Homebases are posted. http://www.scienceolympiad2015.com/Documents/PDF/FINAL%20team%20hqtr%20rooms,%204.30.15.pdf I hope some of those rooms are big, because all teams from each state share a room this year, rather than two teams from each state as in the past. So they're trying to make 60+ people ...

Re: What are your guys times right now?

You could try to lower the pitch of your propeller and start using thinner rubber. That way you could add more energy into your plane to get 4+ minute flights. Alright, I'll give that a try and see how it works. on another note, how does it work exactly? I'm trying to think it through how that woul...

Re: Scrambler C

Definitely with the same skidding at something like 12m, it's a track issue. Skidding sideways is something I saw a lot before I switched to softer wheels (for a few seasons, actually) that got rid of the skid. I'm a bit curious about the axle.. are the threads only on the corners then or do you me...

Re: 2015 National Tournament: University of Nebraska

Just an FYI for teams competing with a scrambler, the gym they are going to use is on the 3rd floor of the building they are using, so I would suggest either getting there early and using the elevator or plan on carrying it up some stairs (the stairs are pretty wide, so don't worry about making tigh...
