Re: Protein Modeling C

Regarding your last sentence, you mention the specific sequence bound by FokI's binding domain. It was my understanding that we modeled the catalytic domain and the portion of DNA cleaved by our model is nonspecific. Did you additionally model the DNA-recognition domain? According to the MSOE websi...

Re: Protein Modeling C

Yeah my idea was to just put it in some kind of crate to hold it all together and make sure nothing gets ruined. Lol I'm relieved to see others going crazy too with keeping the protein safe. So I realize the DNA is an obvious addition which everyone is going to have. Its just that the proctors have...

Re: Protein Modeling C

Thanks! Yeah since you don't find out the build before you enter the room I suppose thats the best you can do. Hey another quick thing, how are you guys thinking of transporting your protein out of state, like on a plane without the folding getting all mixed up. I'm not experienced with how well th...

Re: Poorly Run Event Stories

Well we had a protein modeling test where we were not provided with the rulers, so we had no way of putting the scale on the mini toobers we were given to fold the protein with, and that was a disaster. Also, the computers were online, so anyone could have just searched up the answers. The proctor w...

Re: Protein Modeling C

I was wondering if anyone from that team could give me some pointers on how they built the DNA. Thanks! Or anyone who has made stable, good DNA, advice would be much appreciated. Many pipe cleaners. Think 10 per strand. Or large-gauge jewelry wire wrapped in string (embroidery floss). Or legos (and...

Re: Poorly Run Event Stories

6) At the WSU awards ceremony, before they started, there was a black screen up on the board that was supposed to read: Please call 775-xxx-xxxx for assistance. However, since the dimensions on the screen were 4:3 and the projector dimensions were 16:9, the screen read Pleas 775- for butterfly Whoo...

The point is that we don't know, so we can't practice until we get there

Re: Protein Modeling C

Hi guys, If I wanted to model the DNA-binding domain of the FokI protein for use as a creative addition, what amino acid sequence would I isolate in Jmol in order to model said domain? Ahaha I'll give you a hint: it's out there. Read journal articles, read databases, and you will find everything yo...

Re: New York 2015

Lower Hudson often doesn't post, either. I have no idea what their results were last Saturday. They're sending 5 teams as usual, most of them the same as usual. I don't know, however, whether they're going to make the scoring grid available Do you have the top five? Ardsley, Fox Lane and Byram Hill...
