According to Soinc.org:
Short Event Description: At the beginning of the event, teams will be given a bag of building materials and instructions for designing and building a device that can be tested.
I've never competed in this event before but the Wiki page may be able to help you.

Re: Ecology B/C
I feel like this is a stupid question but if deserts/xeric grasslands are grasslands then how are deserts and grasslands separate topics for this year? If they're different what's the difference between a xeric/desert grassland and a desert? It's not a stupid question, the topic is just a bit misle...

Re: Ecology B/C
Thanks for the in-depth answer. I might try this event next year, since I'm studying over summer for APES, so I don't know if it'll help. It's hard to find resources to study for science olympiad events in general, but there's a ton for APES. No problem! Studying for Ecology/Green Generation helped...

Re: Ecology B/C
What's the difference between Ecology and APES? Besides the fact that one is an AP class, Ecology only focuses on specific biomes (don't quote me on this - I don't do this event) One part of Ecology involves knowledge of specific biomes, changing each year. The event is definitely very similar to c...

Re: Ecology B/C
My friend had an ecology question from a test he took this year: What are E.O. Wilson's 9 points of conservation? If they are found in a literary work, which work are they found in? Do you happen to know which test this was? Probably too late, but this was from the Pennsylvania States test for C di...

Re: Ecology B/C
So one of my team members dropped out, and I've just been given the job of doing the test at the tournament. What is the bare minimum that I need to know? First off, take a look at the rules manual and try to gain a basic understanding of all the topics mentioned in it. As far as dedicated studying...

This site seems to cover the basics of calculating biodiversity quite well.maxxxxx wrote:I know we don't need to know this for the competition, but does anyone know where I can find an explanation of how the Shannon-Wiener diversity index was made(i.e. how they came up with the formula)?

Re: Ecology B/C
I know this isn't green gen, but has anyone encountered legislation on tests? What are the most important protocols or laws that we should know, and what should we know about them (year enacted, what they sought to change/enforce, effects, etc.)? It's a good idea to know the legislation from the gr...
