Re: Tentative 2024 Events
I wouldn't call it a horrible idea... But having a robotics team build for SciOly is definitely not to the spirit of the event. I hope no one does that... We once had our (very good) Robotics team help out with Robo Cross. They just coached and provdided materials to our students, who actually buil...

Re: Starting a Scioly Team as a Student (kind of)
next year, i'm actually leaving the school (going to high school) and as i'm kind of the glue holding the team together In case you're not aware, middle school teams are allowed to have up to five 9th graders who previously attended that middle school. So if you're a freshman next year then you sho...

Re: 2023 National Tournament Announcement

Re: Bridge B/C
Quick informal survey, would people have any interest in me creating a long-form video where I record myself building my latest Div C bridge design and talking through the build process? I could show the glue techniques I'm using as well as more of the general process rather than just the final res...

Re: Trajectory C
The target is typically a "pin" that sticks up in the center of the 1m square. The sand around it makes it easier for the event supervisors to accurately measure from the pin to the actual impact point. Outside of the 1m square, accuracy of measurement is far less critical. That makes sen...

Re: 2022 Nationals
This week, vaccines are opening up to ages 12-15 and today the CDC has announced that vaccinated people are no longer required to socially distance, wear masks, etc. I think it's inevitable that this decision about Nationals will be reversed. It's very early to make a decision like this about next y...

Re: Your Daily Random Comment
Question: From 1996 to 1998, teams were invited to Nationals from Canada for division B and C. Seems like they competed officially, unlike the Japanese teams these days. Does anyone know how they qualified? Did Canada have their own "State" competition or what?
