Re: Road Scholar B

How do you find the date a quadrangle was made? There seems to be a lot of dates at the bottom left
The date is in the bottom right corner, and photo revision (if applicable) will be right under it.

Re: Experimental Design B/C

Also, to say why something is an outlier, just try saying like, 8 doesn't fit in a good range with 4 and 3.

Re: Experimental Design B/C

Hello everyone, sorry for the long post. I have a few questions about the rubric and scoring: 1. For our statement of problem we say something along the lines of "Which (three levels of IV) will result in the greatest/least change in the DV?" (We include units for both the IV and the DV) We have no...

Re: Experimental Design B/C

Could someone please elaborate on the "Standard of Comparison"? I have a small idea what it is, but I rarely get it right. Usually we put some kind of zero.

Re: Road Scholar B

Alright, my question: why would a 7.5 minute quad in Wisconsin be more narrow (longitude) than a 7.5 quad in Texas? The lines of longitude get narrower as they go towards the north pole or south pole. Texas is closer to the middle, where the lines are the widest. Wisconsin is north, so the lines ar...

Has anyone figured out if the pH of the milk effects how well the ice cream is made?

Re: Road Scholar B

The scale for the smaller map is larger, meaning the map and all the details will be larger. The 15 minute map, which is double the size of the 7.5 map, has half the scale so they can fit more area in. this also makes everything smaller. Hope this helps!!! :D

Re: Air Trajectory B/C

we use a weight that falls down a tube design, but we had to shorten our tube. To get it to shoot farther, I drilled about 150 1/4 in holes down the side of the dropping tube. Our machine can shoot over 10 meters :D

Re: Bridge Designs

Also try to keep the bridges light. (i.e. less glue, light wood, less wood) for more points. Ours weighed about 9.6 grams, but the winning one at NY state last year weighed like only 5 grams. (Or that may have been regionals?) :?:

Re: Bridge Designs

Triangles. Always use triangles as your designs, not squares or some other shape, triangles are the strongest.

Re: Road Scholar B

How is everyone else studying? I'm not sure where to start (as for a lot of events) anyone have any tips? One of the best ways to study is to print or buy topographic maps and get road maps, take tests on them (test exchange), have your coach grade them and then correct your answers and do it again...

Re: Air Trajectory B/C

My device is a simple design with an empty soda bottle. Does anyone have any suggestions to improve the consistency on it? Also, are we allowed to move our device in order to aim for the target that is to the left or right of the centerline? I wouldn't use a soda bottle because it is very inconsist...

Re: Road Scholar B

Also, do practice tests repeatedly, and have someone grade them according to the rubric. Also, geographical coordinates are worth alot of points, so are profiling and map drawing, so practice that too. :D
