Re: Robot Arm 2017 event info

This is probably not the right place to post this but I dont want make a new forum which will last for only a week. So I have used magnetic encoders. Because the potentiometers I bought were not reliable as they kept having dead zones and stopped malfunctionoing. It turns out you need high grade pot...

Re: Pictures, Videos, Scores

Out of curiosity, where did you purchase your stepper motors? Are you happy with their performance? Looks great! Thanks! Steppers are working great so far. I juts used ebay and found a rather cheap supplier as I don't have a big budget. Make sure to get closed case drivers. They are worth the extra...

Re: Pictures, Videos, Scores

Very Interesting and extremely well built from what I can see. Did you have the metal machined? Why the use of a servo instead of another stepper and vice versa? I used the mill to machine most of it. I used a servo for the last joint because it is much lighter than the stepper and I didnt need ful...

Re: Pictures, Videos, Scores

Hey guys, So I have been working over the summer designing and building my arm. And, I finished it mechanically. I will still be working on the mimicry arm and coding it and prototyping some penny grippers. It is a traditional SCARA arm. I think it is the first of its kind in science olympiad. As mo...

Re: Robot Arm 2017 event info

Hmm, this is interesting. So the max points requires 12 pennies in the bullseye and 38 pennies in the 2nd ring. What do you guys expect to see in nationals? It is very unlikely that teams will reach that score. So, ties are seemingly less useful than last year. I expect at 4-6 teams with perfect sc...

Re: Robot Arm 2017 event info

The number of points per penny in each ring of the target varies depending on level of competition. I believe bazinga+ posted it on an earlier page of this thread I wasn't able to find this earlier in the thread. Could someone please explain? Thanks Basically at regionals, states, and nationals Eac...

Re: Robot Arm 2017 event info

How does max score depend on regional, states, and nats? In the draft rules it is a fixed 5 stacks of 10 pennies.

Re: Robot Arm 2017 event info

Hi guys, I have a few questions regarding the draft rules. 1) Maximum score is 12 in 1st ring & 38 in 2nd ring plus double points so it adds up to 12(10) + 38(8) = 424 points. Is this correct? 2) Do we start off with 4 points or 0 points because of the 4 original stacks? 3)Are points given if th...

Re: Robot Arm 2017 event info

Anyone know what the boundary of the device is? Will it be 30cm x 30cm or will it be smaller? Based on the information, I know it seems as though it needs to be smaller in order to fit the target in the 70cm x 70cm box. Thanks
