Re: Food Science B

Has anyone tried changing the amount of sugar used in the ice cream? My partner did it, and the results showed that using more sugar significantly increased the measurement of the tower, which is confusing me...because it doesn't sound right. Anyone?

Re: Food Science B

First of all, this is a "new" event, as the event has been basically made-over since last rotation of Food Science. Sooo..nobody has ever gone to states and seen ice cream. Unless some states have already happened?? I was thinking yes, that ice cream is not the more popular experiment to f...

Re: Food Science B

To my knowledge, you're supposed to wait a few minutes for the curds to form, but even so, the least vinegar we've had to use was about 18 ml. So yes, we've been having that problem too. :P

Re: Food Science B

does the impunded notebook just have to contain 9+ sheets of the butter, curd and ice cream? Correct. It's probably a good idea to have nothing in the binder except for those 9+ sheets, just for no confusion or anything. Also, if you have more than 9, remember to put your best 3 for each experiment...

Re: Bio-Process Lab B

On a test, I don't know which, but there was a question with reading a food label. I am also on Food Science, so I knew how many calories/gram there are in fat, protein, and carbohydrates. I used that knowledge as a shortcut, but got the wrong answer because their numbers were obviously made up and...

Re: Write It Do It B/C

what are some ways we can really prepare for this event with our partner? While having someone make you a WIDI and then just write it and do it is good practice, a more efficient way that I've found after 2 years of doing this event is simply sitting down and discussing what terms (for example, clo...

Re: Picture This B

I'm rather glad that there's only 2 people on the event this year. Last year, it was too easy with two guessers, as you could focus on lots less of the broad range of material. Also, there was a lot of trouble with running the event correctly. At state, the poor proctor dropped her cards all over th...

Re: Food Science B

@Kuttan weighing your container/cloth and weighing the mass inside the container/cloth and then subtracting the weight of the container is a good option. This is how my partner and I are doing this. That's a really good link to use! There is no limit--you should get everything on the list of sample ...
