Re: Hovercraft B/C
Sorry about that, but wouldn't it be N/s? Also, what unit is momentum in? I had a question on a test the other day and was uncertain... as you can tell, impulse and momentum are concepts I'm not as familiar with. :) No, it's N*s. As you said, the unit of momentum is kg*m/s. Since Impulse is the cha...

Re: Hovercraft B/C
Answer|Impulse is known as the change in momentum over time. The impulse-momentum theory states that J=Δp. So, J=(0.145 kg*45 m/s)-(0.145 kg*0 m/s) J=6.525 kg*m/s - 0 kg*m/s J=6.525N - 0N J=6.525N So close|The units of impulse are N*s. Sorry about that, but wouldn't it be N/s? Also, what unit is mo...

Re: Hovercraft B/C
Shamelessly copied from the internet.... According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the fastest recorded baseball pitch was delivered by Nolan Ryan in 1974. The pitch was clocked at 100.9 mi/hr (45.0 m/s). Determine the impulse required to give a 0.145-kg baseball such a momentum. Answer|Impu...

Re: Pennsylvania 2017
Then we have another rising team in Wyoming Seminary . They had been bouncing around other regionals, but finally settled in and made states for the first time last year, and placed decently. Ummm.... I go to Wyoming Seminary's high school and last year was the first time we had a B team, so I don'...

Re: Towers B/C
You know, I think we can all say that thanks to Balsa Man, all of us know more about towers than we knew we wanted to know. But in all the discussions we've had about what makes a good tower and in looking at the forces that go into it, I've noticed that it seems as though the actual geometry of the...

Re: Towers B/C
Does anyone here have any recommendations for gluing techniques? After examining my joints, it seems like they are definitely weaker than the balsa itself. I'm currently using the widely accepted method of picking up small drops between two pins and placing them at the edge of the joint, but it see...
