Re: Science Olympiad at UPenn 2018 Invitational
Remote(2): I enjoyed the test. The MC had a good mix of image interpretation and satellite information. Short Answers were few in number, so definitely could have a few more. Despite the room change to the ecology room, it was ran great. Thermo(5): The test was great, evenly dividing the questions i...

Re: Thermodynamics B/C
I also really loved how they used syringes. The water could be poured directly into the beaker without spilling, lost of heat is lessened etc. The test was really good esp with the time limit of your water testing. Overall that was really well ran

Re: What will be the division C events for 2019?
Michigan is running a trial event called Source Code for the third year in a row. This year it's a required event at the Michigan State tournament for Div. C. Many of the regionals are making it a required event and I think most, if not all the MIchigan invitationals are running it, usually as a tr...

Re: What will be the division C events for 2019?
I think FORTRAN is a bit out of date by now... but if they were to replace Game On with a different CS event, I'm pretty sure there are several that have been run as trial events reasonably recently, and they would use one of those, rather than creating a new event from the beginning? But either wa...

Re: What will be the division C events for 2019?
I mean, Chemistry Lab this year has thermodynamics as one of the focuses... It's entirely possible that Game On won't be switched out; given that it's been here for 3 years already, it seems like it's permanently replaced Technical Problem Solving (that is, until they can figure out a better CS eve...

Re: What will be the division C events for 2019?
The Dynamic Planet topic should switch to glaciers next year, shouldn't it? Idk the topic rotations for any of the other events but I'm sure somebody will. I've heard rumors of Glaciers, although the expected topic based on the rotation is Freshwater. Neither would surprise me. The SOSI just said &...

Re: Fermi Questions C
Thanks for the tips!! What's even better is that those obscure units are typically created in order to describe specific stuff. EX: AU is earth to sun distance, angstroms for diametre of molecules etc. they are values while also being relative sizing. Ahem barns ahem Isn't it an area of a barn hous...

Ice Water Bonus (IWB) = (volume of ice water in ml /10) points Teams may elect to add up to 50 mL of water from an ice bath to their internal beaker immediately after receiving the hot water for bonus points. Each team may choose their own volume. Do any of you know how to effectively use ice water...
