Re: Accuracy of Detectors (Overall)

Has anyone else notices that pretty much the only thing that matters is how precise the calibration thermometers are? it's not really the only thing that matters -- usually, the thermometers are precise enough, and your device really does still have a huge impact on your results, but if a thermomet...

Re: Illinois 2020

Stevenson has shown themselves to be the clear front runner currently. I'm more concerned about the situation with the NT vs NN standoff. NN had surprising results at UChicago and while NT has probably improved the same can be said for NN. Although if Stevenson or NT bomb 1-3 events NN could come i...

Re: Chemistry Lab C

For chem lab are the people supposed to provide glassware and stuff for the lab or no, cuz it says they should on the event guidelines but last year we had to bring our own The rules state that event supervisors must provide any "additional glassware" required for the tasks given. At the end of the...

Re: Protein Modeling C

They’re very similar proteins but not quite the same, but it is confusing that they reference how the A3A model should “fit within” BE4. My team interpreted the rules as possibly meaning a separate model should be made for the BE4 plasmid. I'll throw in my two cence.....APOBEC1 and APOBEC3A have ve...

Hey so for people prepping the Nats build for invitationals like MIT, was wondering what you guys were thinking/doing about BE4 seeing as it seems to include APOBEC1 rather than APOBEC3A (5keg) in it's sequence.
is there a difference? structure might be the same/similar enough

Re: Detector Building C

Having said that it would have been a hugely fun third world war of circuit stuff if they had just allowed external PCBs with surface mount components. Maybe next year :-) this would definitely make detector a more interesting event. Right now there just aren't creative ways to approach the problem...

Re: Insulation Material/Waterproofing

Hello. So I was wondering if any type of Insulation Material is even required since my probe works fine with soldered wires and heat wrap (and the wire is already insulated as/is so is there any type of requirement to have some sort of coating on the length of your whole probe, or is that not neces...

Re: Detector Building C

Due to another idiotic FAQ, you aren't allowed to calibrate with the ES provided water. Why on earth they have the water then, I do not know. It’s there for when you get thirsty now ;) In all seriousness, yeah this is extremely dumb. I could see what they were trying to do with a graph (provide a g...
