Re: Washington 2018

Hey, all. Bad times for Woodinville. Things were going pretty steadily... Our study events felt a little weaker this year, but we have an amazing (*amazing*) builder and some really dedicated bio nerds. But overall, progress was slow... and then it got so, so much worse. Four people dropped in the s...

Re: FIRST Robotics?

My school has an awesome FTC team that many of our club/team members are on. I'm on an FTC team outside of my school (417 SKID, wooooo). Because I understand the workload of FTC, I make sure to give those team members just the right kinds of support.

Re: Can Note sheets be typed?

I've handwritten notes before. It can work. I don't suggest it.

My technique for awesome notes is to create tables in Google Docs and play with margins, borders, highlights, etc.

Re: Teach Me How to Captain!

If you can, maybe be an alternate yourself Absolutely part of the plan. b) have 2 teams! Many schools successfully have two teams. Even if you don't completely fill that secondary team, the people that would not have otherwise made the team will still be able to compete. Ideally, yes, but we only h...

Re: Teach Me How to Captain!

The "Building-The-Night-Before Syndrome” hit us pretty heavilly last year. So to fix that me and my fellow builders were given time frames of 3 weeks per frame (2 build events per time frame) to design, build, and test once. Once your 3 weeks is up the others like me start on our next build ev...

Re: Teach Me How to Captain!

Re: invites - Bc of school rules, it's crazy difficult to facilitate team travel to invites, but I'm trying to have team mini-testing days (probably a two-meeting event). Re: pizza - THIS IS AN AWESOME IDEA. I attend a community college and no high school classes (I'm still a senior tho) and it woul...

Teach Me How to Captain!

Hey guys! I'm from a small school that for the first time had more than 15 people try out for SciOly. I'm the science club president, and by extension, team captain, and I'm excited to help my team succeed.* There are only four of us on the team that have done the competition before. Most of the res...

Re: Does anyone do science bowl or bio olympiad?

My science club (I'm the president of it) does Science Bowl! We've ranked higher and higher every year, so maybe we'll move on from the first level this time around... I don't run the Bowl teams, though. The vice pres is the Bowl captain and I'm the Oly captain. Also, I've never heard of Bio Olympia...

Re: Washington 2018

Tested for events and got our roster to 15! For the first time in my experience, we had more than enough people. Crazy.

I've officially taken the helm as team captain, so that's a thing, I guess.

Re: Washington 2018

Back with more updates! We seem to have a filled team. 12 people committed, three or four others on the fence so we'll see if/how they fit in during the next few weeks. Lots of interest in events I've never seen much heart put into in my years doing SO, so I'm excited to see how it goes this year. R...
