Re: 2020-21 Science Olympiad Midseason Poll
I just don't think either MO team is top 25 until they prove they are to be honest. Pembroke hasn't proved it yet with a poor showing at Uchic, and Ladue hasn't competed much (if at all?) I think if this is goijg by a 1 team/state rule Ladue would certainly be getting votes. Absolutely no bias at a...

Re: 2020-21 Science Olympiad Midseason Poll
LOL no one even voted for Ladue HS... I feel like we'd have a very good chance of being top 25, and Pembroke Hill definitely hasn't been better than us since 2019, from my more familiar knowledge of Missouri teams. Of course, with no real non-nationals benchmarks with which to compare teams from di...

Re: 2020 National Tournament: North Carolina State University
Is there any way we can get NSO to not recycle this year's events? Yeah, I agree that events should not be recycled; in my opinion, it seems unfair to teams that may build schedules and select competitors based on the cycle of the rules, and also, this will probably just lead to a more boring 2021 ...

Re: Designer Genes C
You're right that ribosomes can't read RNA in the 3' to 5' direction, but you're wrong about the idea that RNA runs from 3' to 5'. The DNA is read by the RNA polymerase from 3' to 5' so the RNA is built from 5' to 3'. This way, it matches the sense (coding) strand instead of the antisense strand th...

I wouldn't say it's out of the realm of possibility. Knowing the differences between the main 3 should be fine.veroniquescioly wrote: ↑January 31st, 2020, 10:53 am Will we need to know how to distinguish different types of skin cancers by their histology.

Re: Designer Genes C
Long time no see. When converting a DNA sequence to protein are these the following steps? 1. Convert DNA (5'-3') to mRNA (3'-5') 2. Flip mRNA (3'-5') to mRNA (5'-3') 3. Use codon table to convert RNA (5'-3') to protein. I did a test where the answer key skipped the 2nd step, but I'm pretty sure th...

Re: Swap Meet
Hey guys,
Would anyone be willing science merch or anything with “Science Olympiad” on them? Hats, t-shirts, etc. (ascioly?)
or maybe stuff that you put on your desk, like a nice geode, Drinking bird, etc.
Thanks,
FarmerJoe279
