Re: New York 2018

Umm... does it really matter who wrote this? You let tiny little Goff overtake you. This should be a learning experience for all of you. It matters quite a bit. This is a public place. If a user speaks about their team it reflects on the entire school. To add on to this, it reflects on FM high scho...

Re: New York 2018

From Eastern Long Island:
1. Murphy
2. Gelinas
3. Port Jefferson
After this it gets into B teams and I don’t know how many teams advance to states so I’ll leave it at this. Full results here: http://www.newyorkscioly.org/wp-content ... t-2018.xls

Re: On average, how much do you guys spend on each building event?

Here is the real question, do they only ever build towers with the top tier of wood? so at the end of the year there is a massive pile of sticks they are throwing away? Maybe the top teams do, I don't know. I know the first half of the season I spend getting the kids to understand all the intricaci...

If I were you I’d be more impressed with Gelinas and their tower scores. I believe their kids were hoping to put up close to 4000 at nats and just had a mishap

Re: National Tower Scores?

I'm still curious as to why none of the towers were able to get 3800 or better at Nationals? Were the teams just "playing it safe"? Did they not want to risk too much with the team score on the line? Or was there systematic testing errors? Was the humidity too high? Any opinions? I was hoping to se...

Re: Remote Sensing C

If it helps, this was what NC science olympiad had under its event resources page: http://www.sciencenc.com/event-help/remotesensing.php And apparently, the guy who's writing the NC state remote sensing test is also writing the nationals test: So that would make me think that at nats they would hav...

Re: What makes a team successful?

Question for the more analytically-minded SciO enthusiasts - With regards to div B, is there a measureable difference in success achieved by junior high schools (school contains 9th grade) and middle schools (no 9th grade)? There is a HUGE difference between a 9th grader with a year or two of SciO ...
