Re: Boomilever B/C

Hi, I have a question about the main compression members. I am going for a double beam compression design this year and was wondering what kind of orientation I should use. I am planning on using 1/8x3/8 balsa for the compression members. My question is should the 3/8 part be facing up to allow for ...

Re: Boomilever B/C

Hey guys, I will be buying all my wood for the season through specialized balsa and was working out dimensions for this year's boomilever design. I believe I am going to start with a simple double beam compression boomilever. For the compression members, I'm thinking 3/8 x 1/8 and for the bracings, ...

Re: Score Discussion

Chapel Hill High School got first at North Carolina States with a score of 36. 5.4 CTP 4.4 VTP and just above 20 second run time. We couldn't figure out how to make our vehicle go faster and making the driver axle bigger didn't help much. Anyways, we will not be attending nationals and Enloe's and N...

Re: North Carolina 2019

Good states competition yesterday. Throughout the awards ceremony, it was obvious that Enloe was going to come out on top with a better overall performance than NCSSM. It really surprised me when NCSSM won it though. It seems that Enloe completely scuffed their boomilever placing 50th  This c...

Re: Duke University Invitational 2019

Overall, the DUSO put together a very good invitational! Alex, I think we shared a homeroom together as I was on the CHHS team. I wanted to ask how well your boomilever did because I think I saw you test it but never got the chance to ask. Ours weighed 8.64 g and held 7.122 kg. That was only 4th pla...

Re: Boomilever B/C

I'm having trouble visualizing how the dowel attaches to the tension members. People on this forum have recommended putting in a small grove on the dowel in order to make the tension member attach to the dowel on all 4 sides. Can someone explain how this can be done and why this is best option? are ...

Re: Boomilever B/C

Thank you for the responses. Another question: I was wondering what the trusses that connect the tension members and compression members do for the boom. Some designs have it but some don't.

Re: Boomilever B/C

Would a 1/4" diameter wooden dowel at 3cm suffice butt-jointed between 2 bass tension members at 1/8x1/16?

Re: Boomilever B/C

I am unsure of the specs of the J-bolt listed on the rules. https://www.amazon.com/National-Hardwar ... B000BO54X8
Can anyone who has this confirm that the length from the wall to the inner part of the "J" is about 4.5 cm? (2.5 cm opening plus an inch of just the "J"?)
