Re: Events 2017-2018

Will compound machines or circuit lab come back anytime soon? Not sure what the rotation is like for these physics events. Physics events are generally in a 6 year cycle: 2 years in, 4 years out. The current projected schedule is that circuits will be back in 2 years and compound machines in 3. Wha...

Re: Events 2017-2018

Since everyone is talking against the rotations in the tech cycle, I will speak for them. The tech events in scioly are not meant to teach students how to program or solder or manipulate electronics. The main point of the events is INNOVATION. Sure, students will learn certain skills doing certain ...

Re: Remote Sensing C

One unit of spectral radiance is W⋅sr^-1⋅m^-2⋅Hz^-1. Wouldn't this just simplify to J⋅sr^-1⋅m^-2? Hz^-1 is the same as seconds, and W⋅s is a joule. Am I missing something?

Re: Wind Power B/C

Btw my binder is not trash, but it is bad compared to Community MS (won 4th in nats last year and same people doing this year). I have barely any chance of beating them, but I still have some hope. We compete in NJ. I want to beat Community really badly, and we had a chance until yesterday when our...

Re: Remote Sensing C

Use the form of Planck´s function tλ(λ,L) to find the answer.

Re: Remote Sensing C

It would be in the infrared (LWIR). I'll ask the next question. What temperature must a blackbody with 5.54* 10^-28 W × sr-1 × m-3 spectral radiance and 550 nm wavelength be at? Alright. I have an idea, but I'm confused on how we would use the wavelength information. Stefan-Boltzmann's law states t...

Re: Remote Sensing C

Ah, well I never knew the constant's units. Thanks. So to confirm- This would be in the infared range. Do I get next question? If so, I'll just let someone else do it (If that is allowed. I can't think of one rn). It would be in the infrared (LWIR). I'll ask the next question. What temperature must...

Re: Wind Power B/C

I mean of a rotor also can someone help me with this question? A power plant in Chicago is generating 900 MW on a 700 KV line. Assuming the line is 100 kilometers long, with a resistance along the line of 0.2 ohms, what is the current along the lines When I use I=V/R I get 3500kA but when I use I=P...

What do you mean? When I look up solidity, all I find is a programming language.

Re: Wind Power B/C

Although we are division C and can only go to 14cm max, I find that having longer blades generates higher results than shorter blades for sure. Cp=0.5 rho * av^3 Yes, the easiest way to max out your speed would be to do longer blades due to the equation above. However, that equation is mostly usele...
