Re: Hovercraft B/C

Sorry if something like this has already been posted, but we found a really good way to increase the number of pennies we could hold. When my kids were just randomly poking holes in the bottom of their skirt, they could only get 3-4 pennies on. We created a simple device in which graph paper was ta...

Re: Hovercraft B/C

здравствуйте! The benefit from mass score score is based on relative performance, and I wanted to gauge how much mass most people can lift. I can lift the 16 rolls regardless, but the additional mass can cause other complications that can decrease accuracy. As for the accuracy, I am usually within ~...

Re: Hovercraft B/C

To add to that, weight scores are much more consistent than time scores. Once you get to the point where you have a powerful hovercraft, you can guarantee the weight score is successful. Time score is less consistent; obviously, it is important, but not as important as being able to handle all 16 r...

Re: Hovercraft B/C

Hey all, I was wondering if anyone had any fluid mechanics/Div C practice tests. I was less than satisfied with mine and my partner’s performance at a recent tournament despite having the best build score, (16.89s, 16 rolls). Does anyone have any tests from fargone tournaments; your Physics II homew...

Re: Hovercraft B/C

is there a significant advantage to 3D printing?? No, I don't see why there would be. Often, when printing objects with a large area of contact to the build plate, they tend to warp. If you were to have specialty filaments or a heated bed, that would be a different story. Safest bet is to make it o...

Re: Hovercraft B/C

Are there any pots that are like less than $50? I think something like this would work, or there are slightly cheaper ones with lower wattage ratings :) This certainly doens't work for my craft. For the beefier crafts, the pots just burn and glow like hell. I had some organic solvent on my craft (t...

Re: Thermodynamics B/C

Well it's sad to say guys, but no-one (as far as I can tell) took my test!

Here's the link to the test and answer key if you want it. PM me if you want clarification on a question.

I think I may have scared everyone off with my warnings.

THERMO MOCK TEST

Hey everyone! I've been crazy busy, but I finally completed the mock test. It took a long time to write, and I can assure you this test is exorbitantly difficult. This test was designed with a 40 minute testing period in mind, and I trust that you will not cheat and go over the allocated time! If it...

Re: Thermodynamics B/C

For those of you dying to get your hands on a challenging test, I can assure you one will be created imminently, (over Winter Break). If you wish, I can even develop rankings for scores on the tests for all to see. Let me know how you would like this to be done and importantly, what topics you think...

Re: Hovercraft B/C

Just a very quick question that one of my students asked me. The rules for hovercraft state that "Commercial batters, including rechargeable, not exceeding 9.0 V as labeled, may be used to energize the motors on the vehicle." My student asked me if that was limited to 9.0 V batter PER mot...

Re: Thermodynamics B/C

Anyone know a good place to get polyurethane foam? Can't really find any good places SmoothOn makes a lot of pourable urethane foams. All you have to do is mix parts A and B and pour the solution into a mold of some kind. I made a mold around my beaker and made a very good insulating device in an h...

Re: Hovercraft B/C

Just for clarification, can we put the pennies on the craft after it has been started? Like after substantial lift has been achieved (no thrust) Also what skirts are you guys using? my hovercraft can barely lift itself with a 8.4 NiMH pack :/ I have no problem at all lifting a 2+kg craft with no sk...

Re: Thermodynamics B/C

Hello I came here because I have a few questions 1). i see aerogels are a abig thing for thermo, but im confused because i see alot of pictures of them seeing them in a pebble like form but i also see picture of it being one sheet. How exactly do aerogels work? 2).in the rules it says the beaker ha...

Re: Hovercraft B/C

I think we would all appreciate it if you could stop begging people to find parts for you. See what works, see what doesn't. Having the best build score at Nationals last year, I can assure you that truly knowing your craft is better than outsourcing it to someone else. If you want to lift enough pe...
