Re: State Tournament Results

As I explained in the Indiana 2018 thread, the way national bids work is that there are 60 total, and all 50 states are automatically entitled to one bid per Division if they have registered teams in either one or both Divisions. The remaining are redistributed to the states with the highest number...

Re: Mission Possible C

I got second at NYS last weekend... my score was 1340 and they took two actions - otherwise I had a 30s chem timer (it should have been 1 minute but I set it up wrong) and 12 working actions plus start and finish. It was pretty ridiculous how long we had to wait, but they let us drain the ice water...

Re: Remote Sensing C

Remote is confirmed to be rotating out with Geologic Mapping I think, and Rocks and Minerals will once again be swapped by fossils. 'Tis a sad life. Microbe Mission is being replaced  By an event with a name that I absolutely DESPISE, no less. Hmmm, to get back onto the topic of remsen. The ru...

Re: Hovercraft B/C

What are some effective ways to prevent your hovercraft from turning 90 degrees halfway through the run and getting stuck?

Re: Hovercraft B/C

Hi y'all, Am I allowed to use alligator clips to wire my hovercraft? I remember some team getting chewed out last year for doing that... S-O Battery policy says: • insulate the battery terminals and attached wires when not connected; • do not use bare wire at any time in the construction of your de...

According to the faq, it is only a violation if you USE it for more than 10 sec

Re: Non-Chemical Clocks

We are using a pump to pour water to complete the "water closes circuit" task. If we somehow adjust the speed of the pump to take 30 sec to pump the water, would this be acceptable? or would this violate the 10-sec electrical rule?

Re: Hovercraft B/C

To clarify, the potentiometer started smoking? yes... and the wires ... and the battery Hmm. Well, 10 ohms is not very large, and it seems that you'd also need a potentiometer that can handle higher wattage. What are the specs on your battery and motor? I had a similar problem with my EV last year....

We used a 10 ohm pot but it started smoking

Re: Hovercraft B/C

If you max out your dimensions and carry the maximum load possible, you’d need a fan with over 200 CFM for an airflow. You probably can find one on amazon, although another option for your current motor is to place some resistors in your Circuit to decrease the current going to your motor. This wou...

Re: Hovercraft B/C

Does anyone have any recommendations for thrust fans? We are using a 12" propeller mounted on a very powerful RC motor, but it seems like it is drawing way too much current from the battery (to a point where the wires catch on fire). If you max out your dimensions and carry the maximum load po...
