Re: 2020 Friendly Science Competition

Out of curiosity, how formal would this be? Could entire schools (with their 6 teams) enter into this competition?

Would the bids from states who have cancelled their tournaments be allocated to other states?
I think states who cancelled their tournaments simply select who they believe is the best team from their ranks, although whether Nationals will still go on is in question.

Re: 2020 National Tournament: North Carolina State University

Judging from our current inadequate national response, the contagiousness and relatively high case fatality rate (for a respiratory disease) of COVID-19, and the projected socioeconomic impact of the virus, I'm predicting the cancellation of Nationals, with the slim possibility of rescheduling.

Send Troy.
What about Div. B
Have a small tournament with only the top 5 contenders.

I'm only partly kidding.
I think Nationals will be canceled as well, so unless we have a make-up season at the beginning of next season, such a tournament would be unlikely.

State & Remaining Regionals Likely to be Cancelled?

I think with how fast the COVID-19 outbreak is escalating in Washington, the Regional Tournaments that haven't taken place yet (Eastern Region, Div C & Northwest Region, Div B), as well as the State Tournament are all likely to be cancelled in the near future.

Incoming NorCal State & Santa Clara Regionals Cancellation?

With the cancellation of the SoCal State Tournament, does anyone think COVID-19 could also affect NorCal State or the last NorCal Regionals tournament, Santa Clara? I think these two tournaments are increasingly likely to be cancelled.

SoCal Regionals in Question?

At this point, I think that the SoCal Regional tournaments that haven't taken place yet (Inland Empire & the 2nd San Diego Regionals) are increasingly likely to be canceled as well.

Re: Science Olympiad Events 2019-2020

No, the two are very, very different. Oceanography is really about the geographic aspect of oceans, while Marine Water Quality also includes estuaries and has to do more with the ecological aspect of oceans and salt water in general. However, Freshwater Water Quality and Freshwater are similar in t...

Re: Astronomy C

Has there been any firm confirmation of next year's topic? I've heard rumors that it may be Starburst Galaxies again or change to Star & Planet Formation, with Stellar Evolution as always, but I'm not certain on either.
