Re: Wright Stuff C

Unfortunately, they do not fit any AMA rules class this year. They would be most directly applicable to P18, but even this year's monoplanes will not fit that class. However, if you are looking to go to an AMA contest, contact the Contest Director (CD) and ask them to add a "Science Olympiad" class!...

Re: Tweaks for 2021

Brian: How about they do something like the Scraps plane (living room flyer size), but limit the rubber? Could be fun! Half a gram is not hard to reach, but could make min weight 3/4 gram? Coach Chuck Chuck, That would be fun. Model boxes would smaller and cheaper too. Brian T I gotta say, this pla...

Re: What's Next???

EDIT: Nvm, the answer is probably no. Plastic too heavy anyways. They are allowing balsa sheet props or plastic. In a 500mg plane, plastic way too heavy. But if it's all you got, these are desperate times! The blades are small enough, perhaps you could do with curled paper? If you have any sheet wo...

Re: What's Next???

There is currently a new "Postal" event getting started. This is focused on a living room flyer, the Scraps plan. This is a small plane that can be built to the minimum 500mg weight with readily available wood. While this weight level may be a challenge coming form SO 8g minimum weight, they are sma...

Re: Wright Stuff C

Currently, use either the Ultrafilm (like FFM supplies), or try Super Ultra Film (See Ray Harlan or FAI Model Supply). Super is thinner than the SO version, and will help make weight. Microfilm is old school, where you made a film by dripping chemicals on a smooth pool of water. We used the Super fo...

Re: Wright Stuff C

Sequestered at home with nothing to do? Tired of rules that change every year? Tired of planes that are designed to minimize flight time? Build a P18 or an LPP over the next 2-3 weeks. Then use late May to go to the AMA Nationals instead of SO Nationals, and compete in a 95' ceiling dome! Youth ent...

Re: Wright Stuff C

I agree as well. I am seeing reports from many ES's that very few, if any, tried the reversing, and very few even made a complete circle. That was also my experience as a helper at Regions and ES at State. Students had very nicely built planes, but were at a complete loss as to how to trim these tem...

Re: Wright Stuff C

So another year of these awful airplanes! Fun! At November's coaches conference I will bring some Sky Streak balsa planes. They will fly better than most did at State. I do remember 7th place was about 3 seconds, out of 25 teams! The World Championships for F1D were also cancelled, to be rescheduled...
