Re: 2021 Solon HS Invitational

Quick event review I guess: Boomilever (2nd): The instructions were clear and the event was well run. Props to JonB for running a build event under challenging circumstances! As for the other events, I've heard extremely poor reviews from others. The sounds of music test was 40 questions, multiple ...

Re: Robot Tour C [TRIAL]

1) You stated that $50 was a fair starting point for many teams, but just like any other build event, inexperienced teams lean towards kits that companies sell to assemble for competition. Although yes, the theoretical minimum is $50, that is only for a team that knows exactly what to buy - and com...

Re: Robot Tour C [TRIAL]

1) To get a Non-Participation (NP) rank ("working robot") it has a minimum budget - a reasonable estimate would be $50 dollars. This could be compared to <$5 dollars for balsa events, <$20 dollars for GV/MTV, ~5 dollars for PPP, etc. For any small team, this forces NS or P points. Anyone ...

Looking for Alumni Volunteers: 2021 SHSSO Invitational

Hello fellow alumni! The 2021 Solon High School Science Olympiad Invitational on 1/23/21 is looking for experienced alumni to author exams and/or supervise events. While our preference would be people who are available to supervise and grade on 1/23/21, volunteers who are only able to write tests in...

Re: BEARSO Invitational

I can confirm that this is definitely the largest in C, surpassing San Diego Regional's 100-ish. I'm pretty sure no invitational has topped 80 before. In B, San Diego Regional is typically in the vicinity of 120-ish. I'm really curious where this 150-team limit comes from. I hear a lot about it but...

Re: New Coaches

For alumni who went on to coach teams, how did you go about contacting teams/starting to help out? I coached events for Solon MS during my first three years of college. Then before my senior year the head coach for the Solon HS left and there was nobody willing to take the role, so my mom and I ste...

Re: Replaying Events for 2021

What I'm proposing is that 28 events are scored, and teams can drop the 5 lowest events, resulting in the same number (23) of events counting towards a team score, and allowing teams to pick which events they want scored more. Lots of invitationals have a hard enough time running 23 events (finding...
