Re: Pennsylvania 2020

What’d everyone get for machine ratios [24th gross] ?
A/B 1.961
B/C 1.527
I hope they release the expected ratios

Re: Marking the Beams

yea sure. I said "something" intentionally, Im basically saying you can arbitrarily use any setup for the entire lever system, as long as you mathematically can reach equilibrium at any of the possible mass ratios (with some buffer to be safe)

Re: Marking the Beams

just choose something and make sure you can cover the entire range of mass ratios

Re: 2020 LISO Invitational (Long Island, NY) Div B & C

Anyone know what the actual mass ratios were for machines C? I would like to compare my calculations with the actual values.

Re: Machines B/C

Hi all who see this; I have a rule question. Rule 3e. states, " Participants must not bring masses or include them in devices except when fixed in place prior to impound to obtain static equilibrium " I realize that this means counterweights must be fixed in place; however, what is the official def...

Re: Machines B/C

Umaroth's solution is correct, the sphere has no reason to roll Oh lol I forgot to say it was rolling. Ignore my stupidity Sorry for stopping the flow, but I wanted to point out that that answer is still wrong. When dealing with a ramp problem with a rolling sphere or cylinder, its easier to use th...

Re: Machines B/C

A ramp is 5 meters high and 13 meters long. A solid sphere is released at the top of the inclined plane. Friction is negligible. Calculate velocity at the bottom of the ramp. Assume g = 10 m/s^2. ans is not V=sqrt(2gh) 10 m/s I think you missed that it's a sphere and it's rolling, so we have to inc...
