https://youtu.be/nn-x44gB0oA This is our helicopters journey this year. Let me know if you have any questions! Very very impressive. Did you guys find any modifications to the FFM kit to be helpful, or were you able to get a 3 minute time without modding the original plans? Here are a few: 1. Don't...

Re: Newbie Question on Rules
Is there a certain format that the practice log has to be in? No, but off the top of my head there is a minimum of ten entries (rows) and each row must have a time and distance measurement plus at least one other parameter. Look at the rules carefully as I know it states explicitly what is needed. ...

Re: Best Times
Use the thread provided in the kit to support the motor sticks by making two flat x's on both side (top/bottom) of the Chinook. Can you clarify what you mean by this? I'm a bit confused by where the x's should go. Yes! You start off by looking at the motor stick below the middle (Doesn't matter how...

Re: Mousetrap Vehicle C
It doesn’t really matter. I just used back because it “felt” better. I was about to say the same thing. If your lever arm extends beyond the body of the car it may hit/interfere with the cup. To prevent this many teams have the winding axle in the back so by the time the lever arm reaches the front...

Re: Scores
In terms of timing, how can event proctors be sure about their time? Since human reaction time is about .25 seconds, event proctors may mistime due to the first run, correct? (If a vehicle overshoots the first run, then the event proctors may be caught a bit off guard for the 2nd run if its much cl...

Re: Mousetrap Vehicle C
What would be the benefits of such a strategy? To me it seems only to be a time advantage, though you might lose even that with the energy you have to expend from the mousetraps the launch the cup The team competing at my regional had a time of less than 4 seconds because they launched the cup and ...

Re: Mousetrap Vehicle C
This is in no way an official nationals post nor do I represent the opinions of the National Event Supervisor for this event: I recently supervised a regional in Florida where a team successfully used a mousetrap to shoot the cup past the 3 meter mark and proceed to reverse to the target point. I d...

Re: Best Times
Were all of the helis that got close to 3 minutes modified FFM kits, or were there original designs? Nearly all of them would be FFM kits, not necessarily modified though. Wow, 3 minutes with an unmodified kit? I’m really stuck on how to increase the time of an unmodified kit helicopter so signific...

Re: Which Mousetrap?
If you want to get the max out of the springs, bring a kitchen scale to the store if you have one. Invert the MT and hold it on top of the scale and let it press down. I have found that the Victor MT varies from 870 g to 1100 g, mostly between 950 to 1000 g. The difference is only about 10%. If you...
