Re: Anonymous test taking (kind of)

There's basically no argument against anonymous grading besides it might take slightly longer? So if possible why not? Even with awards already consistently delayed I wouldn't mind it being delayed a bit more for a more fair and accurate results. The pin idea could probably work smoothly with just e...

Re: 9th Graders in Division B

http://www.illinoisolympiad.org/team-qualifications.html "If a Division B school does invite 9th graders back to participate as part of the team, it is NOT permitted to have a JV team for that school year. The school principal MUST sign off on the team roster acknowledging that all students in...

Re: 9th Graders in Division B

I would say it's a bit more then just a slight advantage, but I do agree taking first across the board is complete false. IMO any, even slight advantages should be eliminated as much as possible from scioly where in some cases a few points could make the difference between where you place. Obviously...

Re: Last Invite Before a Regional

Having gone to back to back to back compititions the past two years, by the end of it I was super exhausted, prob didn't prepare as much as the first one, and didn't really enjoy it as much. If your team is worried about not making states then probably don't go. If you care about doing well at state...

Why exactly do you want to put a textbook into your binder?

Re: When do the rules for scioly events usually first come out (2020)

You do realize that it isn't exactly easy to go to SOSI. Especially for teams who are from the Northeast. Going to SOSI is sort of like a show of how committed the team and coaches are to scioly, because it's not exactly easy to go to Phoenix from let's say, New York City. In a sense, you have to r...

Or drafts two weeks ago which are almost the same thing but you can't get them unless you go to sosi so that only teams that can go get a huge unfair advantage ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ You do realize that it isn't exactly easy to go to SOSI. Re: Science Olympiad Events 2019-2020

not if you just put textbooks in it , lol thats still pretty inefficient (Ik your prob joking but) Once in astro I had a new partner who filled in who decided the best way to prepare was to download astro textbooks. I asked him if he knew something midway through and he gave me his downloaded textb...

Re: Science Olympiad Events 2019-2020

The difficulty curve for road should be about the same as codebusters(note:i dont do either event), but code gets nothing while road gets a binder They are completely different events. I can think of no reason whatsoever that a binder would even be remotely useful for code. Also in general why woul...

Re: Science Olympiad Events 2019-2020

So events like machines and thermo.... don't really need a big binder of notes, maybe just 1 sheet of notes, yet SciOlyCo always decides to give us a binder. :?: They do for the history questions and besides, binders are easier to read in the first place Let me provide some perspective on why we do...

Re: Math Ability of Competitors

I would put Algebra 1 in Level A just because I don't think that it really fits with Algebra 2, Trig, and Pre-Calc. Algebra 1 is mostly linear stuff in my experience. But again, that's my experience. Math Level A: Number Sense, Algebra I, Geometry and Spatial Reasoning, Measurement, Data Analysis a...

Re: Math Ability of Competitors

Division B I personally would say no because most people in div.b don't learn that. But I don't do dp, so I wouldn't know. The point of hard questions imo is to test the absolute science ability of the student in that subject, not their math ability. I disagree, waves are an important concept in oc...
