Re: 2019 National Tournament: Cornell University

There's no limit to alternates. In their team they're probably trying to save money by bringing less alternates. So they're asking if more alternates need to come. Are they? It sounds like they're asking if they're able to come rather than need to we were going to bring just four because we anticip...

Re: 2019 National Tournament: Cornell University

quick question - for the oldies but goodies events, can only team members compete or also alternates?

also, since we'd like to get rooming out of the way - if oldies events are open to alternates, will we be able to bring additional alternates beyond the 4 for the two trial events?

Re: 2019 National Tournament: Cornell University

Yes, we certainly would like to know the trial events for Nationals. Our state tournament (NM) is so stinking early we have been waiting for a hint for a month now for our alternates to know if they want to make to trip to Ithaca. And the Nationals site is still so empty of information. Very frustr...

Re: New Jersey 2019

Results are out: http://njscienceolympiad.org/tournaments/2019/ucc/2019_ucc_results.pdf Div B: Community won by 31 points even with a 20th place bomb (cough me oof). Div C: North lost to South by 1 point, and they would have won the tiebreaker. that's true, but fossils wasn't counted in the final s...

Re: Game On C

Does anyone know what is meant by "Elements are logically grouped and organized"? How would we group or organize them? like all of the code for variables in one section, mechanics in the other, so they when they look at your code it is clear and they see how they are connected Yeah, and d...

Re: The Event that "Got Away"

The reason for my username :( But seriously, Game On gets too much flak for what it was intended to be: an inquiry event meant to marginally introduce computer science into Science Olympiad and couple it with scientific concepts. No, it's not a study event where hours of work can lead to that gold m...

Re: Events you wish Science Olympiad had

I know Source Code (MI) is already a thing, but I wish there were more events having to do with computer science that emphasize something other than making games (using computer science very loosely here lol) or designing algorithms like in Source Code. Perhaps there can be some kind of event that i...

Re: New Jersey 2018

This year's Experimental Design (C) was one of the most unique experiences I've had doing the event: the topic was permeability (in the context of earth science), a deviation from the normal cookie-cutter physics and water properties topics the event is plagued by. With messy materials like diatomac...

Re: Game On C

Another possible way in which you can make a building game is to have a "hand"/UC sprite doing the building from one point to another, with the building blocks stamped after the user presses a certain key (e.g. space). Then, you can have a very small sensor sprite that constantly glides at...
