Re: Monitor

What would happen if I were to bring a monitor, along with my raspberry pi, and themositor. It has the potential to detect the temperature and I know it is really inconvenient, especially since this event requires stations. Each station I would plug in, restart my pi, detect the temperature after a...

Re: Varied Resistance for a Certain Temperature

I have the same problem, if someone has determined the cause, please consider sharing. I think it is because either my sensor is trash or my waterproofing is sketchy. If the resistance drops, then you likely have water getting into your connections to the thermistor. If the resistance goes up, you ...

Re: Detector Building C

I have a quick question, say I were to be running the detector of an arduino, and I coded it on a raspberry pi, can I use a portable usb charger to power the raspberry pi when I set the temperature ranges for the lights? Thanks! If you don't use mains power I certainly see no reason why not. Sounds...

Re: Operational Knowledge of Basic Device Components Test

The rules are pretty open ended. Relationships between voltage temperature and resistance ... well, that hints at the sensor types and materials. LED operation, ok but basic device components end up being half circuit lab and presumably data relationships is sort of half statistics. The tie breaker ...

Re: Detector Building C

Why did they say that my examples (graphics library, serial comms library) were banned then? I can't find any FAQ that specifically mentions any libraries. Maybe they changed the wording? Anyway, I'd just like to note that we're at 21 FAQ's, many contradictory and even self-contradictory. I'd think...

Re: Detector Building C

That's just my strict interpretation of the rules. I don't actually have any idea if it would be allowed, since they made up a term ("preset program library") that does not have a definition. I would think that graphics libraries are not "preset," but their response proves otherwise. At this point,...

Re: Temperature Sensors

I have a couple of questions about temperature sensors used in this event. 1. Are we restricted to using the temperature sensors under the "legal" list or are those just some examples of legal sensors? (I assumed they were just some examples) 2. Would a TI-LM35 be legal? 3. Is a temperature sensor ...

Re: Detector Building C

10/13/2019 MAY STUDENTS ADD A MODULAR ANALOG-TO-DIGITAL CONVERTOR (ADC) TO THEIRMICROCONTROLLER? No. External signal conditioning boards are not allowed. So even though it makes no sense to limit the use of external ADCs (they are not external signal conditioniners), I guess they are now explicitly...
