Re: Team Registration Numbers Discussion
I doubt that numbers will recover until in-person tournaments are resumed. I think this is a commonality that a lot of academic programs are facing (e.g. Science Bowl, Speech and Debate, etc.), and it's to be expected since online does not fully capture the in-person format. However, I would think t...

Re: Nationals Event Discussion
Congrats to everyone who competed today! Astronomy (3rd): I thought that the test was solid. Although I didn't really get a look at the calculation questions, the DSO section was definitely challenging without being impossible. This was also the first tournament I saw using JS9, but this section was...

Re: 2022 Nationals
I definitely see your point, but again, it all depends on how everything is doing. I think the summer months will be pretty pivotal in deciding whether school trips can happen again, and a lot of schools will be watching to see this. For example, California is aiming to fully reopen on June 15th (so...

Re: 2022 Nationals
I agree with mnoga. However, I also know that safety is the number one priority for all Science Olympaid activities, so I understand that the national board wants to be cautious. I hope that the COVID case counts start dropping soon so that schools can open up. Everything seems like it's slowly reop...

Re: 2022 Nationals
Although I definitely see and understand your points, and I understand that I lack knowledge that a tournament director has, I still believe that canceling in-person nationals this early is way too soon. If it were December and cases were rising, I'd understand, but right now, there is so much that ...

Re: 2022 Nationals
I agree with this. I think with the US’s vaccination goals (70% of adults vaccinated by July 4th) and the likely approval of the Pfizer vaccine for all middle school aged children and up (possibly next week?), it is likely that a lot of tournaments will be able to return to in-person formats. Vaccin...

Re: Untouchable Events
For us, it’s definetely Mystery Architecture and Road. Nobody likes those events for some reason... maybe because Mystery is so stressful.

Re: Solar System B
1. Ganymede is one of the several moons of Saturn. It is in fact, larger than Mercury, but is still classified as a moon. Why is this? Give multiple reasons. 2. On New Years, New Horizons had its closest flyby of what object? What kind of shape is it, what is it’s color, and what do these indicate? ...
