Re: Math Ability of Competitors

When writing questions involving math, what do you assume that students have been exposed to? In Div B, how much algebra do you think that students would be exposed to? Quadratic formula? Logs and exponential functions? Simple calculus using something like an Nspire? What about Div C? Is it reasona...

No it's supposed to be Ping Pong Parachute lol

That event will be a mess.

At least In Wisconsin we can drop the event. Hoping code analysis or source as the extra inquiry.

Re: Mousetrap vehicle 2019-20

I'm also planning on doing this event next year. I would start by looking at old rules specifically when it was last in division B. I believe that is 2012 you can find a copy of the rules by searching "Science Olympiad Rules 2012 division B" In my opinion building something over the summer...

Re: Science Olympiad Events 2019-2020

What do you guys want to replace Fermi? What else is there that could replace Fermi? The only other option is Technical Problem Solving, which I personally think probably could be done well, but historically it hasn't been well-received. What about code analysis? Personally I think it would be bett...

Re: Science Olympiad Events 2019-2020

As someone who has done indoor bottle rockets (ping pong parachute in Wisconsin) if the rules are similar I do not think it will be a good C event because it is a really easy build and their is such little spread in times it can simply come down to when the timer stops.

Re: Science Olympiad Events 2019-2020

For MTV in division B do you think we’ll have to go backwards like this year or will it be similar to battery buggy 2018 where we just went straight and stoped?

You can get carbon fiber from the freedom flight website. It’s under the parts tab.

Re: Battery Buggy B

So to measure the angle of my buggy I use this sheet of paper with the angles on it and place it behind the start point. The rules say sighting and alignment devices placed on the track are permitted but must be removed before the run. Does placing the measurement device behind the start point still...

Re: Density Lab B

19) Find the mass density of a sphere that has a 10 m diameter.

This question was on one of the tests in the test exchange and I have no idea how to solve it can someone explain why the answer is (4000/3)(pi) according to the key.
