Re: Ramp Creation

My car keeps bouncing—the wheels lift off the ground a few centimeters—as it leaves the bottom of the ramp, in the transition from ramp to floor. I believe that this may because the curve on my ramp is too steep. Does anyone have any experience with this? Do you recommend just rebuilding the ramp (...

Re: How do you guys form your cheat sheets?

I've got a question which I'm not sure goes here or not, but here it is: In binder events, can I put a book in my binder? By the spirit of the rules, it's a yes - especially if I secure it with binder clips enough to ensure it doesn't fall out when shaken upside down. "Information in any form" woul...

Re: Triggering the Vehicle

When you stick a pencil through a loop, the pencil has to be able to stay in place and hold the vehicle without anyone holding it in ready-to-run configuration? If so, how do you keep the pencil from slipping out? Or does the weight of the vehicle keep it in place? The rules aren't quite as explici...

Re: Boomilever B/C

When we run a competition the estimated load held is given verbally to the check-in specialists. This may vary by competition. I wonder if anyone has ever seen the estimated load actually used? It's there as a tiebreaker only, and the odds of getting the same answer for the ratio of mass held to ma...

Re: Monitor

Each station I would plug in, restart my pi, detect the temperature after a few trials, and unplug. Having a monitor is within the rules (3a includes "a display"). 3e, however, tells you that you may not use an electrical outlet at any point during the event, and that the device must be powered eit...

Re: Detector Building C

The top-down photograph requires "labels identifying all components and detailing their functions". For anyone who has done this event (or an ES) does that mean I need to label every resistor, every wire, and all of the pins on the Arduino I am using? A wire is not usually "a component", but you'd ...

Re: Boomilever B/C Design Software [Free] Request

You can do it on SolidWorks, possibly OnShape or other CAD programs as well SolidWorks isn't free. OnShape is free for educational use. FreeCAD apparently has a FEM solver that will do these kinds of calculation - I just found a video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mLYVHHuOZE but can't tell yo...

Re: Size of Vehicle

hi. i am looking at the rules and i’m not very understanding what “when the vehicle is placed flat on the floor, the dowel must be approximately perpendicular to the floor, extend to within 1.0 cm of the floor, and extend at least 20.0 cm above the floor”. do any of you know what this means? It mea...

Re: Gravity Vehicle C

Interesting clarification: (Section: 2 / Line: 1) 01/05/2020 ARE TEAMS FROM THE SAME SCHOOL ALLOWED TO SHARE A RAMP? Yes; teams from the same school may share a ramp if it is it compatible with their vehicle. Very "interesting". Also seems to be in conflict with General Rule 4 (All pre-built device...

Re: Can the golf ball in the starting or final action be used in other storable actions?

It is not really just a couple more golf balls but introducing unnecessary triggers and probability of fail. Don't understand this bit - re-using the same golf ball is more complicated than having several single-purpose golf balls. I see what you're doing with your interpretation of the rules, but ...
