Re: Pennsylvania 2021

Hello hello! Just wanted to pop in and let y'all know that Pitt is hosting a Division B tournament with tests written by science olympiad alum. Since it's our first year, the tournament will be pretty chill and there is currently a super super small registration fee so any middle schools (even if yo...

Re: Science Olympiad at Penn State Div C Invitational (SOAPS)

Hi everyone! I co-wrote Ornithology (with Bea <33) and Fossils (with Claire!!!) for SOAPS 2021. First of all, a huge thank you to Zoe, Arman, Alexis, and Ben for running such a smooth invitational for competitors, event supervisors, and test graders!!! In a time conducive to isolation, thank you for...

Re: The University of Texas at Austin Invitational 2020

Fossils B/C Huge congratulations to everyone who attended UT Austin! Even with the frantic Discord chats and Scilympiad messaging over technology complications, we hope you all enjoyed the invitational and learned something new. I co-wrote Fossils with Ryan Anselm and also had many volunteers who h...

Re: Fossils B/C

When they ask about extinction causes what are they usually looking for? b/c most of them are caused by a large chain of events that had multiple impacting triggers (seismic activity - global cooling - sea level drop - co2/h2o drop - etc.)

Re: Ohio 2020

Also, they didn't end up returning score sheets bc pitches were only entered into the spreadsheet which is kind of annoying. - XPD appeared very tier/multiplier heavy based on the scores. They supposedly asked to do some additional task that was kind of a peculiar addition. I believe it was some so...

Re: Fossils B/C

On the same note, anyone have good sources for graptoloidea/dendroidea? They've been showing up more frequently as the season progresses but we only have the most basic info for them and can't really find much else online. What's the correct time range for favosites? Some tests say Upper Ordo-Mid De...

Re: Nationals Event Discussion

Unfortunately, the same was not true about the Herpetology test. Although I was fortunate to get the result I wanted, it's still important to address the persistent issues with this event at Nationals. The test was written by the same proctor as last year, and it was significantly easier than any o...

Re: Poorly Run Event Stories

This is way too long ago but I would still like to rant! Went to an invite last season and took a herp test; it was with one of my best friends who I could only work with once or twice since she had other priorities on Saturdays, but still the best partner ever. Took the test, turned it into the guy...
