Re: Video of my daughter's last year device for Division C

Really cool build! Will definitely miss Mission in Div C, but can't wait to see what unique ideas Div B competitors have in store! If anyone wants to see my mission from last year, pictures of it can be found here . I'm happy to answer any questions you may have about how it operated! WOW!!! All 12...

Re: Gravity Vehicle C

I don't know if this is appropriate to put here but I wanted to get other's opinions on this: Why would they make the distance so long? 12 meters?!?! This may be unique to my situation but the way our team does building events is the kids do it 99% at home. Most building and testing time is done on...

Re: Boomilever B/C

One time my boomi friends walked over and quickly dropped some glue on my palm and then sprayed it with accelerator... It was a lot of glue too. Did you get massively burned? That sounds ridiculously painful, the closest I've been to this was getting welts from accidentally getting hot glue on my l...

Re: Gravity Vehicle C

What's the legality on this, given the phrase in 3.g. "All parts of the Vehicle must move as a whole"? That's a curious phrase - "move as a whole" isn't very well defined. The next clause talks about no anchors or tethers, so I'd interpret that to mean "everything has to stay with the car" but I wo...

Re: Gravity Vehicle C

Do you think there is any best size for the car to be? Old pictures seem to indicate a wide variety of dimensions. Some covered the whole ramp and others were probably not even 25 cm long. I believe any size vehicle has the ability to work out well, but personally I think bigger cars are the way to...

Re: Gravity Vehicle C

I understand, thanks for the clarifications. I planned on launching the vehicle from the top of the ramp but adjusting the mass concentration on the vehicle to regulate how high the center of mass is. My current ramp design features barriers on either side of the ramp that extend 1.5 cm above the s...

Re: Braking

In terms of braking, what type of system is everyone thinking about using? So far, since the vehicle has at least 0.5 meters to slow to a stop, I was thinking of using a wingnut system but with a spring to avoid skid. On another note, how would one ensure that there is sufficient play between the w...

Re: Gravity Vehicle C

How did you manage to bend the acrylic? Acrylic softens when heated, so there are possibilities there - either bending it over a suitable form, or vacuum forming. Or, if you have thin enough acrylic so it bends, just force it to conform to your wooden base and screw it down. I believe the previous ...

Re: Gravity Vehicle C

I'd say that the accuracy should be close to that of Scrambler last time it ran in C. Especially for those of us that're using our Scrambler car... As for my questions, * Do y'all think it would be worth building a adjustable ramp, as opposed to a fixed one? * How about ramp surface materials? I wa...
