Re: Science Olympiad at MIT Invitational 2019

Anyone think some of the answers for thermo multiple choice are wrong? Specifically 3, 7, and 9.

Re: Is this decent?

i want to ask a similar question... I used 100 mL of water, the source temp was about 63 deg C (only 1 thermometer and did not measure too accurately). The 1st reading in the device was 57.7, which then dropped down to 50.0 after 30 minutes. The air temperature is about 19 deg C (cold house), which...

Re: Science Olympiad at MIT Invitational 2019

Hopefully thermo will be run better this year, since there were many problems last year. I suggest using a bucket heater with a temperature controller rather than a hot plate to heat the water. Also, using preheated syringes to measure the volume of water will greatly improve precision and reduce he...

Was the 70.3 degrees measured before you poured the water in or after?

Re: Thermodynamics B/C Build

I used aerogel thermal wrapping inside and used Styrofoam for the actual box. Most attachments were done with hot glue/ ducktape.
All of the aerogel sheets I've found contain fiberglass, which did you use?

Re: Thermodynamics B/C Build

3D printing is a really bad idea for a thermo device; the filament (is that the correct term for it? I've been away from 3D printing for quite some time) needed would cost the same as actually buying insulation foam and cutting it into the correct shape. The thermal insulation will probably be real...
