Just curious. When the car brakes, is your drive arm all the way down (all the string has winded off the axle) or does the car stop with the drive arm still at an angle to the car (some of the string is still wrapped around the axle)?

We have tested and competed on countless surfaces from linoleum to wooden planks, and our car still consistently draws a flatter arc on the way back, so I don't think it is the floor. I have used fishing line before for the drive string, especially because it is so thin and can permit more loops around the axle than other times of string, however, I found that after a few runs, it began to curl up/retain the curled up shape (instead of remaining straight). That made it a nuisance...

Given that we are allowed to use mousetraps and that certain mousetraps can go off somewhat easily from vibrations, is there a way to alter a mousetrap to make it less likely to snap on accident? Or are there specific brands/types of mousetraps that would be more consistent? I am just a bit curious ...
