Re: Storm the Castle B

Sorry for the double post, but a new FAQ just dropped that apparently puts this to rest: "(Section: 6 / Paragraph: d. / Line: 3) 02/14/2022 IS WEIGHT TO HAVE AN OPEN HOOK OR EYE HOOK? It should have an eye hook." Since the change from open hook to eye hook is a direct change from the writ...

Re: Replaying Events for 2021

One other interesting point is the registration fees paid by the teams. My assumption is the State and National competitions were canceled early enough that they could refunds for facilities and hotels. If a state did not have any regional or state competition and since Natls was cancelled, what ben...

Re: Replaying Events for 2021

I recognize Science Olympiad is not a democracy but it would make sense to me to have each State Director send an email (or survey monkey) to every coach in their state asking if they want new events or repeat events. The results could then be tallied and the true sentiment of the competitors recog...

Re: Replaying Events for 2021

The vast majority of teams never make it to State and even fewer make it to Nationals. These students participate for the excitement of learning something new. If the season is repeated some will continue to pursue the topic further to become a “master” but I suspect most will become bored and choos...

Re: Wright Stuff C

As a manufacturer I couldn't care less, but as a mentor of umpteen young modelers it makes my blood boil, especially considering who writes these rules. He should know better, and he keeps doing this crap anyway. Josh, since you seem to have a specific person in mind, would you care to share exactl...

Re: Wright Stuff C

The rules are poorly formed resulting in truly ugly airplanes. Doubling the stab span would have greatly eased the trimming difficulty and made for prettier looking airplanes. Basically, the rules are crap because they wanted to screw us all over with difficult to fly airplanes. As a manufacturer I...

Re: Elastic Launched Gliders B

Predictions for winning times at nats? Considering the 40' ceiling id say around 130-135 seconds total would win. I’m going to guess the winning time total will be 127.5 seconds or a score of 154 counting all Bonuses. Good luck to everyone Ps. I’m also going out on a limb and going to guess Tower H...

Re: Elastic Launched Gliders B

Jdh3 2) When you launch it horizontally with low power and no bank, it climbs linearly for 2 feet and then tries to transition right into a glider, but the right wing tips downwards, bringing the whole plane down. This is a wing warp problem. Grab the right wing about 1" out from the fuselage ...
