Re: Wheels
Why T81 as opposed to T40? Won't they just take more energy due to being heavier and lower your center of mass? What do you mean by taking more energy? Hi Tendan, The reason that heavier wheel require more energy to rotate is due to the concept of rotational inertia. Put simply, rotational inertia ...

Re: Pennsylvania 2020
Yeah, I'd agree but I don't think it's a tossup. I'd say: 1. Harriton 2. CV 3. Bayard Rustin 4. LM That works too. Regional performance will also be a good indicator for some of these. Yeah, it's just that Harriton is a powerhouse and CV may be way better this year, but not powerhouse level. I do h...

Re: Scores
Given that, what do people think nationals scores will be like? I'd guess less than 7 points to medal. Luck might be what determines where the best teams will fall. Run distance was 10.0 for GGSO, which in theory should be easier than long distances like 11.5 and 12.0. If at Nationals they use a di...

Re: Scores
i would have to disagree with you on the last part. imo the end zone should be a BONUS not a penalty, which should be chosen as a balance between going for it and not. Similar to how scrambler or ev/buggy was back a few years ago with going around/threw cones. You can still be relatively competitiv...

Re: Gravity Vehicle Ramp Please Help
If you do use the pencil and loop starting mechanism, are you penalized if the loop drags on the ground? According to Rule 3g, "The only parts of the Vehicle allowed to contact the floor during the run are wheels/treads. Pieces falling off during the run constitutes a construction violation.&q...

Re: Scores
Golden Gate Invitational (GGS)) top six plus some estimated scores: 1. Iolani 4.5 2. Mira Loma ? 3. Albany 8.0 4. Monta Vista ? 5. Troy 8.5 6. Lynbrook 9.0 All six teams that won medals were less than 3 away. Iolani's two runs were near perfect. Event was run on a nice gym floor with the grain. The...

Re: Scores
I would do something like (-1)*distance past the endzone in cm added to your score. You would probably need photogates for an endzone, or else there would be a lot of disputes over if a car really made it. The only alternative I can think of would be somehow having it push a cup. This is what I had...

Re: Scores
They could also do a weight bonus, but that might not completely fix the problems with luck. I was also thinking something similar to previous years like fitting between two cans, or maybe something outlandish like a three-wheel bonus or having to go backward or turning, of which the latter two mig...

Re: Gravity Vehicle Ramp Please Help
Hi i am a freshman and this is my first time doing gravity vehicle. So I finished my car but I was wondering if anyone could give me tips on how to make the ramp. I am planning to use wood and curve it, but I was wondering if it is easy to cut the wood into this shape, which will probably be a brac...

Re: Wheels
Would it be better to get green or orange T81 wheels? I know green has better traction and could reduce skidding, but they also deteriorate faster. I don't want to have to replace the wheels before the state competition in early March. Why T81 as opposed to T40? Won't they just take more energy due...
