Re: 9th Graders in Division B

I do not believe that Marie Murphy or SAA use 9th graders. MM has gotten 12th in 2019, 8th in 2016-2017, 6th in 2015, 3rd in 2013, 2nd in 2011-2012, and 5th in 2010. SAA got 14th in 2014 and 18th in 2018. DW is a feeder for Stevenson, and Marie Murphy is a feeder for New Trier. SAA is a PK-8 private...

Re: Last Invite Before a Regional

We usually go to 3 invites: one in December, January, and February before our regional in early March and State in mid-April. We never do back-to-back competitions of any sort. While the practice gained from a fourth invite is definitely valuable, I would not do this before regionals.

Re: Science Olympiad Events 2019-2020

Some supervisors try to have the test be broken up into impossibly long stations in order to make sure that the top few teams know the material cold.

Twin Groves Density Lab. I beat MM and DW (at state), but I got second and TG got first.

I have just revised my test and tried to send it back to the moderators, but I keep getting an error message.

Re: Do people normally get States/Regionals tests back?

In the IL competitions that I have been to, states/regionals tests have neither been posted nor returned to teams. However, our regional does create score distributions for different events (for raw score), but I am not sure if this is standard practice.

Re: 2020 Way Too Early Predictions

What do you think about Marie Murphy? Do you think they will get 3rd at state to Woodland? How do you think that Woodland would do at nationals if they qualified?

Re: Math Ability of Competitors

What about geometry and trig? This is not for any event in particular, but in general. Thank you for the feedback.

Math Ability of Competitors

When writing questions involving math, what do you assume that students have been exposed to? In Div B, how much algebra do you think that students would be exposed to? Quadratic formula? Logs and exponential functions? Simple calculus using something like an Nspire? What about Div C? Is it reasonab...

Re: 2019 National Tournament: Cornell University

I wanted to clarify what I was trying to say. I can see how you thought that I meant that I meant that I thought Woodland was deserving this year, and I should have tried to make my post clearer. What I was trying to say was that I think that Woodland can pretty much be neck and neck with Marie Murp...

Re: 2019 National Tournament: Cornell University

Agreed. Coming from IL B, one team that deserves to go (if they get a bit more consistency) is Woodland. They got a 204 at IL State compared to Marie Murphy's 111 and Daniel Wright's 84. They also bombed Roller Coaster (getting 44) and presumably bombed Battery Buggy (getting 30). Note: I am not fro...
