Re: Sounds of Music C

I'm very confused right now. Aren't violins, guitars, etc under the category chordophones? In the draft rules chordophones are one of the groups allowed. Are you still calling these the draft rules? http://soinc.org/sites/default/files/uploaded_files/trial_events/SoundsofMusicC.pdf :) All of 'em se...

Re: Chem Lab C

Chem Lab's topic generally changes every year. I think atomic theory/bonding/states hasn't been in for a while (like 5 years) so maybe that, but I'm not positive. But Physics Lab used to change every year, and now it's been energy for like 3 years in a row, so anything could happen.

Re: Computer Science Event

If you define CS as the science of computation, then it definitely deals with computer science. Hopefully the event would be able to cover basic topics of recursion, some data structures (if it required students to know how to handle lists, strings, arrays, etc.), and basic algorithm formation. And ...

Re: Computer Science Event

I had an idea a while back for a very basic programming event for division B (for people with much experience in programming, I think it would be much too simple). It would require no computers, and was basically a way to get rid of one of my least favorite events, WIDI, while keeping its spirit (an...

Re: 2011 Events.

Sounds was probably the most expensive building event (per year) our high school had. Though we could reuse some parts and materials from the instruments before (we could turn the notes from tubular bells the year before into resonators), it was still well into the hundreds. And at nats, from the lo...

Re: Indiana Science Olympiad

I was a supervisor for Microbe Mission. There was no where in the state rules or clarifications that said you could bring a binder or a reference sheet (unless I missed something). In fact the state website says: Question: Are binders allowed for the trial events? Answer: No, the only trial that all...

Re: National Qualification

He gave one three posts back.

Just keep in mind, sciolyandmathcounts, that if another state had gotten two teams for nats, then you wouldn't be going this year. :?

Re: National Predictions

I'd say historically (until recent years) division B on a whole has been more competitive in Indiana than division C. Though in the past few years, state competitions in C have gotten more competitive (at least at the top). This year, Bloomington South won with the greatest lead in the last 5 years,...

Re: Indiana Science Olympiad

Just so you know, it was also under the state science olympiad rule clarifications here. Congrats to all the teams there! It was great to be on the other side of SO this year.

Re: 2011 Events.

For sounds, you build two instruments (one with a higher range than the other). You have to then perform two songs and answer questions about physics. Every time I competed, the questions were in a verbal format (in fact nationals in 2008, the whole test portion was "describe the physics of sou...
