Re: Astronomy C

There is a mistake in this exam (the mistake is not on the answer key, but in the exam itself). My apologies to anyone agonizing over this problem. This is from the 2014 PA state exam. The separation of the stars should be listed as 1.56E10 m . http://i0.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/000/55...

ASTRONOMEMES

This is my first attempt to start a topic. I will periodically be posting my favorite "astronomemes." Those of you who have taken (or seen) any state tournament astronomy exams in PA over the last few years might have run across these. I saw some good ones on the Yale Invitational exam this year; if...

Re: Astronomy C

The term is "Peimbert Class." There's a good article here: http://adsabs.harvard.edu/full/2005MNRAS.361..283P

Message me with questions if you have any. Regional exam to follow. The top scores went as follows, out of 100: 62, 58, 54, 5...

That's my issue. It seems that I changed something and forgot to change the original data. I will update as soon as I can.

Re: Astronomy C

Not sure why your answer does not match. I just did it again and got the reported answer. Maybe your masses are different? I used 1.99E30 kg for the sun, 1.898E27 kg for MJ. My semimajor axis is 7.39E10 m.

Well - maybe just a few boos. More like a collective groan. The 2015 exams should be up soon.

Re: Astronomy C

The Southeast Regional and PA state astronomy exams should appear on the test exchange; they have been submitted. Questions? Let me know. The high score on the Regional exam was 76/80. I don't recall any other scores, all the answer sheets were submitted to the tournament administrators. The high sc...
