Re: For the Same weight ball travels different distance
We place the sling at the same point. Our setup is fixed, meaning we place the sling at the same point, every run is a tournament run. Kids do a 5 point check before every run. The weight is same, the only variance could be friction caused by the supporting arm where the weights are mounted. We mini...

For the Same weight ball travels different distance
Not sure your teams faces this issue. For the same weight the balls travels different distances, with a difference .5 meters. They they fell short or travel longer. We lubricate all the moving parts before testing. I have not clue why this is happening. The setup is the same and friction is also min...

Re: Excessive movement of triggering device
Definitely The Event supervisor is wrong here. Question: Did your team raised an appeal with the Tournament Director? There will be person from your State Science Olympiad committee to arbitrate these types of issues. I'm been supervising build events for the past 5 years. During Invitational ES nee...

Re: "Clearly labeled"
Yes. A sharpie or a sticker label that marks the start and end of the Gap. Helps the supervisor to measure the device.

Re: device measurements
The leveling shim should not add significant height to the device. And its always safe to build the device 1 to .5 cm less so that we don't have to deal with the shim height. In my experience as a supervisor we just need 2 to 3 mm shim height to make it level. Adding a spirit level to the device als...

Re: Bridge Div C question
This year non of our bridges broke (Div B) in the competition. Surprisingly it didn't break after we tested again at home. Bridges weight range from 4 to 4.5 grams. Our trail bridges broke consistently during practice (< 15kg) , weight ranges from 3.5g to 4g. I remember years back a team at Centervi...

Michigan. Top score range somewhere between 3500 - 3900.
We tried to build few bridges under 7 none hold more than 13kg.

Re: Bridge B/C
Our Team came 4th with 7.22g bridge held 15 kg and 50 g and broke. So lucky to cross the 15kg mark. We didn't make to the nationals. Good luck to all the team who made it to nationals.
