Re: Flight Trimming

1. Assume that the plane cruises near stall: wing has high angle of attack, stab has less but still positive angle, nose is up, prop thrust also up. I want to ask about the vertical component of the prop thrust. Is the vertical thrust wasted? I imagine that the prop thrust would be most efficient i...

Re: FAI F1D

IMO the best film is penny plane plastic from Roy White. It's probably the cheapest film out there, weighs less than superultrafilm, and the amount of film you get on one roll is rediculous. That is true. I was not sure if he was selling film still. I bought some Y2K film from him a while back whic...

Re: FAI F1D

Alright, so I got the kit for the Penny Plane, and it came with condenser paper. It seems harder to work with and heavier than the film..... Which should I use? The film's thinner than normal, but I think it can withstand the slow moving prop's little thrust. Thanks, Brucester The Ultrafilm you use...

Re: Flight Trimming

Could someone explain to me the method of creating wing wash? Am I correct in assuming that the left wing (by left, looking at the plane head on) should be tipped so that the leading edge is about 1/8th and inch higher than the trailing edge . . . while the right side of the wing is level. Is that ...

Re: Propellers

I'm not understanding how you can remove your propeller from the pigtail prop hanger. If anyone has it, could they post a picture? I depends on how you bent your prop wire. The easiest way to figure out how to remove a prop from a pigtail bearing is to put the prop so that the rounded section where...

Re: I have a question. How did Wright Stuff become so hyper-comp

I have a question. How did Wright Stuff become so hyper-competitive? I did not find it to be significantly harder to win than any other event. If anything its a bit easier because there are so many people who are willing to help ou out in the indoor community. Science Olympiad in general gets prett...

Re: Elevated Bridge B/C

Now, I have a question: When I sand my pieces flush, the middle sometimes sticks out a little; maybe 1/64 or 1/32. Is there any technique you can use to stop this, besides from being a robot that can sand perfectly (which we all aspire to be). Why are you sanding in the first place. It decreases st...

Re: Flight Trimming

Right now, my cambered horizontal stabilizer has negative AoA. with a 10cm chord, the LE is about 1/8 inch lower than the TE. I assume 0 or positive AoA would be better, so to get it to fly right with positive incidence on the tail should I move my wing forward? This is all assuming I eventually ge...

Re: diameter of prop

StampingKid wrote:How is the diameter of the propeller measured? Straight across the axis along the spar or from far tip to far tip?
The diameter is measured straight across the axis. At nationals they have a slot that is 20cm wide that you have to fit your prop through.

Nice work! Those are very respectable times for a kit plane.
