Re: Elastic Launched Glider B

coachchuckaahs wrote: January 25th, 2020, 12:12 pm Can you give a better description of "flips in a circle"? Which way is it going (to the top, to the bottom, to the side)

Coach chuck
When it launched to top, it flipped over and down a circle vertically and then to back to glide horizontally.

Re: Elastic Launched Glider B

Hi,

I tested one of our new gliders today, the hand gliding is very good. But when launching, it always flips in a circle at the top and then glides well. I checked the incidence which is ok and I don’t know what the problem is. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Re: Elastic Launched Glider B

How to calculate the area of wing if it has flaps? Including flaps or not?

Thanks,

Re: Elastic Launched Glider B

Nathan, Good job working on the critical details. 5.0 lb cu ft balsa (c-grain necessary for stiffness) sanded to .025” thick stabilizer will weigh 0.2 grams. Of course, the stabilizer area should be about 15% of the wing area. It is easiest to get low density wood like this in slightly thicker shee...

Re: Elastic Launched Glider B

New, I would recommend: Wing (complete with pylon): 1.75 grams Fuselage: 0.65 grams Stabilizer: 0.2 grams Fin: 0.05 grams Front hook: 0.1 grams Nose ballast: 0.25 grams Of course, all components must be adequately stiff. This means judicious use of carbon, light foam and low density wood. Brian T B...

Re: Elastic Launched Glider B

Our best flying is 18 seconds under the 25 feet ceiling. Our glider is about 4 grams with nose clay. It seems that we already reached to our limit and don’t what to do to improve except to reduce the weight which is also not easy to us.

Re: Elastic Launched Glider B

I have a question about adjusting incidence. The thinnest piece of shim I could get is from the 1/32” balsa wood sheet. What about 1/64” to 1/100” for slighter adjustments? What material can I use for that precise shim?

Thanks,

Re: Elastic Launched Glider B

I thinned the duco (1/3 duco and add acetone) and made a small bottle ready to use. It is very watery. Is it like that? I feel the parts need to put somewhere to support well and the glue will take long to dry.

Re: Elastic Launched Glider B

Jeff,

Thanks for the instructions. I will be careful. I never use Duco before. Is it strong enough? Do I need to enforce the joint with other glue after final adjustment?

Thanks,

Nathan

Re: Elastic Launched Glider B

Brian and Jeff,

Thank you for all the details about how to use the balsa cement. I may go for Acetone for thinner first. The dope things sounds not that easy to manage to me.

Thanks,

Nathan
