Re: COVID-19

Same in WI. I don't quite understand... Us New Yorkers in the hardest hit state (per capita or by raw totals) are only out until May 15th* at this point. And it's a known fact that if you open to soon, there is potential for a second wave of infections. -It seems as if Governor Cuomo will extend th...

Are there often questions regarding the conservation history of birds, or their specific heights and weights?
I haven't seen heights and weights very frequently, because they can be easily found in a field guide. However, be prepared for many conservation questions!

My Stuyvesant High School, like everyone else in New York, is closed until April 16
I am in NY too, but my school is closed until April 15.
NY also, school closed until April 15th. I have to assume that Governor Cuomo will at least extend closures through April 30th.

Re: COVID-19

I think that at this point, the economic impact is inevitable, but the economy has always recovered, this is no different. The most important thing is to limit the spread, regardless of the effects on the daily lives of people. For example, my home state of New York has been reluctant to close schoo...

Re: Covid-19 and Nats/States

The thing is, East's timetable (decide at end April to re-create a tournament for early June) is about the shortest feasible timescale. Even smaller tournaments take time to organize - tests have to be written, volunteers have to be found, and so on. Public schools around here mostly finish at the ...

Re: Covid-19 and Nats/States

The thing with regionals tournaments is that if a high school is willing to host it, you can run that tournament in a fairly straightforward manner. I would not expect such a tournament to be scheduled now, but say around the end of April we are seeing a clear decline in the effects of the pandemic...

Re: 2020 National Tournament: North Carolina State University

5 Freshmen are allowed on any Div B team anyway. I initially had the same thought (I am an eighth grader) but I realized that although yes, you could go back to Division B, I feel that it is better for your "Science Olympiads career" to move on to Division C, in order to familiarize yourself with s...

Re: 2020 National Tournament: North Carolina State University

No, sadly I do not think that this could realistically happen. Basically, Science Olympiads is treating this year as if it did not exist. If it is like the year didn't exist, will they allow the old 8th graders back into the team? 5 Freshmen are allowed on any Div B team anyway. I initially had the...

Re: Water Quality B/C

Especially in a study event such as this one, retaining the same rules provides a major advantage to competitors who have already participated in this event. If the event rotation is not to be changed, at least some minor details (such as the marine species that we must know) should be in some way m...
