Re: NFFS Super Simple Div B Airplane - build video, etc.

Thanks, that gives me ones NOT to try, and an alternative covering.
I did try Alene's Permanent glue stick and it seems OK, not great, after a couple of days.
Weldbond is reliable, just a little messier for clinics.

Re: NFFS Super Simple Div B Airplane - build video, etc.

Has anyone found a good, currently available, glue stick for this plane?

Re: 3D Printer Use

Now, not as a rules interpretation, but as a coach. While 3D printing can be useful for limited parts, I suspect you will have difficulty making a fully 3D printed plane competitive. Two reasons. First, weight. The most critical thing to getting these things to fly well is to build to minimum weight...

Re: 3D Printer Use

First, caveat. THIS IS NOT AN OFFICIAL ANSWER! The only way to get that is to submit question to the national site! That said, as I read the rules, 3D printing is not forbidden. Last year some kits had 3D printed parts and I did not see any tiered for this. BUT, the rules do require you to construct...

Re: Flight B/C

BUT, the disadvantage is not very large! Until you can fly last years plane to 2+ minutes it won't gain you more than a few seconds (if that) to push to a much larger plane. I'll note that last years single biggest cause of tiering (and it was still a problem at nationals) was teams pushing the limi...

Re: Building Boards(Glass v. Foam?)

Almost any flat surface can be made to work. Flat is the key. Foam is nice because it accepts pins easily and is adequately flat. You can cut it to any convenient size needed, and when it gets lumpy or warped, simply replace it. I use these most as they suit my building style. I seldom build over pl...

Re: Dihedral Joints

Inside of spar as most competitions I do are chord limited, I don't want to add to the chord. If not chord limited, outside is certainly easier!

Re: Dihedral Joints

Cut halfway through at the joint, at an acute angle along the spar. Crack, but do not fully separate the pieces. Prop up as previously described. Add your preferred glue, either thinned duco, or thin CA to lock the joint. I've never needed to reinforce the joint, but if needed, a doubler of balsa al...

Re: Flight B/C

You can just barely see the net in that photo. The lowest portion of the net is the white line across the room JUST above the basket ball net that was pulled up in that picture. We had the basketball nets down because that gave more unobstructed high ceiling space. But while it looked like you could...

Re: Flight B/C

I ran C and B was right next to me. With 10 teams an hour, have to have two teams running at a time to stay on track. In C it only caused a problem on one flight that generated a reflight. Since awards have been announced: Div B (I only have approx times for top two) Sierra Vista, CA ~4:10 Beckendor...
