Re: Ohio 2010

Ohio thinks differently about Scio than the rest of us do... Really? I would be interested to know what Ohio thinks about SO. I think part of what makes a long-lasting great team is infrastructure. Many of the top teams have an incredibly established program with an enormous number of coaches and a...

Re: Indiana Science Olympiad

I just found out that in Indiana, all B teams can bring binders. This is on the Indiana Sc.Olypd. website. Why isn't this happening in PA. It would really help for ornithology and other events. You Indiana People are so lucky. Well, it's a double-edged sword. It makes people less prepared for nation...

Re: Ohio 2010

Lasa got 61 last year in Texas and placed 8th at nationals the same year No offense but I'm not sure if Texas has ever produced a top ten school other than LASA (who has managed to come 8th). In contrast, Ohio has produced numerous national champions. What is more, last year's champion team (from O...

I remember this.

Re: National Predictions

In Indiana, it's easier for a weaker school in Division B to medal in some events because relatively strong schools(like us, WWMS) bomb certain events(Compute This, most building events, etc.), and most schools can medal in a few events. But in Division C, it's mostly just a ton of domination by Bl...

Re: Indiana Science Olympiad

I'm not sure how many middle school students read this thread but from the looks of it yesterday, that was an exciting competition as well.

Congratulations to Thomas Jefferson and Wilbur Wright Middle School and good luck at Nationals!

Re: Indiana Science Olympiad

Yeah it was an amendment to the rules that Indiana made. I believe it was posted on the Indiana page early on in the year but was kind of difficult to find. (Our team didn't see it until the day before regionals) Anyway, I think it would've been much better just to go by the national rules but you c...

Re: Indiana Science Olympiad

Although this may sound a bit arrogant coming from a member of Bloomington South, I do think this was an incredibly exciting state competition! I felt like all my events were run really well. Definitely, the tests for Astronomy, Fossils, and Technical Problem Solving were hard enough that they would...

Re: Physics Lab B/C

Division B speeds should be higher because you are allowed a smaller radius. The crucial ratio of the blades is the tip speed ratio: (the ratio of the speed of the tips of your blades to the wind speed). If the tip speed is v, then the angular speed is v/r. Bigger angular speed=bigger voltage so you...
