Re: Where are you going for colleges?

If others are interested, I may be able to offer some insight into the location. Troy does not have a reputation of being the best city around. Blood isn't flowing through the streets, but there's a bit of crime, some drug rehab centers, and a few especially bad neighborhoods (but I don't know why y...

Re: Optics B/C

I understand qualitatively how the Doppler effect works, but I don't quite get how to do it quantitatively. Could someone please once again enlighten me?

Re: Where are you going for colleges?

If I may ask a question, has anyone ever heard of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI)? If so, I would really appreciate it if you could PM me (as to avoid clogging this thread) with how you found it (did you already know of it, or did you find it through extensive college research?) and in your v...

Re: Optics B/C

Yes, thank you, I believe I understand now. I was erroneously assuming that E=hv as a mathematical relationship could only produce quantized values, whereas if we look at a hydrogen atom in an excited state moving to a lower energy state, it then becomes obvious how frequency becomes quantized withi...

Re: Optics B/C

As I understand it, the energy of a photon is not continuous, but occurs only in discrete values. These values are described by Planck's constant in the equation E=hv. What I do not understand is how energy is quantized while frequency is not, or why frequency is quantized, and how exactly these rel...

Re: SAT Scores?

I got a composite score of 30 :? And I got 3 math problems wrong! At least I got all the science questions right, but if English is your native tongue, you should be able to. English 29, Math 31, Reading 27, Science 32. Kind of disappointed with myself to be honest. Suggested careers: cab driver, fa...

Re: Optics B/C

The rules mention "energy and momentum of photons," if I remember correctly. This can be approached on many different levels, with varying degrees of funny math. For Division C, how is this typically covered?
